Thread: Greater forces at work?

Hmm, so i was looking forward to a rather nice, quiet, peaceful morning of a little TF2. However, my dreams were shattered after finding out about our servers hardware failure. So in an attempt to evade these greater forces's plans for my free time, i attempted to launch BF2.

Though i have encountered several problems:

• First, im on a fresh install of my os, while i have my bf2 folder intact, i do not have any of the bf2 registry keys which seems to cause me to CTD when ever i join a game
• Second, i tried installing a fresh install of bf2 and patch it with the 1.5 patch, however it seems the installer is high because it believes that the fresh install (bought it a week after bf2 came out) is a higher version then the 1.5 patch
• Third, after pulling a little effort, i got my original bf2 to join a game, however now its convinced my cd key is incorrect, however, i am positive it is correct, im looking at the registry key value, and ive tried the support/cd key.exe

Any ideas?

Uninstall everything. Delete the folders.

Run the install. When it finishes copying files, the installer should run BF2VoiceSetup.exe, which has a separate window (and often refuses to run properly on 64-bit/Vista/7). If nothing comes up after the file copy window disappears, BF2VoiceSetup.exe has hung, but the installer has not written the registry entries yet and is not finished. Open Task Manager and kill the BF2VoiceSetup.exe process. The installer will then continue as it should. When you get the proper "finished installing BF2" window, the install is actually finished and the registry entries written. Now the patches will work.

Run the 1.41 patch, then the 1.5 patch.

BF2VoiceSetup.exe doesn't do anything that you can't do later in the game options, so don't worry about it.

You have to down load the 1.41 patch and then down load the 1.5 patch other wise it will not work.
