Re: BF:BC2 Technical Issues / Tweaks
I'm having a severe problem with frame rate drop or something whenever playing the RUSH maps, and the Mcom's begin flashing.
What I'm running: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz. 3328MB RAM, GSkill DDR-1200 PC2-9600, 2048MB x 2, Dual Channel. SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16, Diver Version: 8.801.0.0. Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s. Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3. ASUS Maximus II Formula LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard. Internet Service: 16 Mb/sec cable.
Problems I'm experiencing: Frame rates drop to 3-4/sec (usually 68 to 100) when Mcoms begin flashing. Occasional loss of all video, after load up screen finishes, all I see is a black screen, names of players, and Flag/Mcom icons. Next: Intermittently everything seems normal except, all players are either invisible or only a scant wireframe outline; all I see is the muzzle flash of their weapons. And finally; and this happens rarely; my weapons turn gray (losing all detail) and I crash to desktop.
What I've observed: These symptoms tend to occur only on the RUSH maps, or any map immediately following a RUSH round. I cannot recall it happening in or when entering into a Conquest map. Also, I originally had the game installed via disk, but uninstalled it and installed the Steam DLC (to get Vietnam and SPECACT), and when I check the cache files there is invariably one file that does not check true, and Steam reloads it.
What I've done: The usual stuff, checked for virus's and malware (none), defragged HD, cleaned up the registry, closed as many background processes as I can, made sure the firewall wasn't causing trouble, backed up the Steam game files, turned off a memory monitoring program I've used for a long time, but there has not been a significant improvement.
I've run several high intensity graphics card test programs, and everything checks out good. BC2 is not the most taxing game I have to play on this system, but Crysis is, and it runs smoothly.
What can you guys recommend I look at to make this problem go away.Last edited by RagunCajun; 01-31-11 at 07:09 PM.

Have you done this?
New ATI hotfix drivers out really improve FPS if you're running ATI card. See here to install over 10.12's. I'm steady 50-60's now even on fps killers like oasis these are 'just the drivers you're looking for'.

Re: BF:BC2 Technical Issues / Tweaks
I DL'd Sapphire's latest driver version (8.812), and now I have problems with the game locking up. I noticed too, that the Catalyst version rolled back to 10.9 (was 10.12).
I'm a bit leerie of using ATI drivers that are not specific to the card manufacturer, am I wrong?
