Getting error when trying to play multiplayer.

Whenever I try enter a server in multiplayer on BF2, I get a CTD or freeze with this message:

I have no problem playing single player at all. At first when I had this problem, it took forever to log in to the account server, but that problem was taken care of by reinstalling, but the reinstall did not fix anything else. When I go into the server browser, I cannot join a server immediately as there is about a 10 second pause between clicking on a server name and when I can join the server by pressing join game or double clicking. Then when the game allows me to press join game, the server shows up as having no players listed even though the server browser says there are people playing. In my favourites all the servers are red even though a few of them should still be there like TTP.

Games like Left 4 Dead 2, and Counterstrike Source still work. I haven't played a game of BF2 online since the 15th of February. Since then we got a new cable modem and router for our network. By brother can still play BF2 multiplayer, but he uses XP and I use Vista. I still have yet to try and see if BF2142 works which I am going to test out right now.

I have googled the problem but came up with problems from 2005 when a patch had a memory leak, or found things that were meant for patch 1.41, which were fixed by patch 1.5.

Edit: 2142 server browser only shows up with 4 servers and freezes if I try to join any of them.

    Well ...

Googling this error comes up with illegal versions and no-CD crack issues. Legit versions or disabling the no-CD crack removed the error.

Patches 1.41 and 1.5 supposedly eliminated the VISTA memory issues.

How much RAM do you have?

Have you deleted your cache since reinstalling? Delete all under \Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\

When this error occurs, do you do a restart and then try to run the game again?

I am getting the same thing, except mine were intermittent. Bf2 would error out at 61% of the map load screen. I was able to get in game after a restart and once I was in game I didn't have any trouble. I figured I had a re install coming down the line. :5

Yes, I have done all that and I have 3 gb of RAM.

This really sucks, BF2 is the only game I want to play right now every other game I have for TTP I find boring. I have tried replacing BF2 with Modern Warfare 2 on XBL but that is not even close to the same. I love the gameplay in some ways, but getting nuked when your team is up by 120 points in domination pisses me off. Then when I try to get teamplay going on a mic, no one ever responds. And if someone else is using the mic, guaranteed it is a dumbass 14 year old who is complaining about stupid shit or telling the team to get the flags because we all suck, even though he is just sniping, and not doing a good job of it. And I can't drink, or do any physical activity for a bit longer so I am super bored. Please help with anything.

I'm recuperating from an illness. Not being of age never stopped me.

I really, really want to play. I just did a reformat and it did not work. I am guessing it must be the router and cable box switch that wont let me play.

What vista are you running 86 bit or 64 bit? Do you have the full BF2 install disk (which includes 1.4 path) or earlier BF2 install disks? Also, I don't think its your internet BF2 only needs 128k of bandwith to run. I more leaning towards that its BF2.exe is trying to use more memory than it is allowed to. Try seeing how much virtual memory is allocated for your machine. If I remember right the steps are right click on my computer and find System Properties then go to Advanced / Performance Options / Advanced / the Virtual memory. But that's my 2 cents.

Side note: Make sure you are running it as administrator...

    -32 bit
    -earliest install disks
    -3370 MB allotted
    -ran as administrator/UAC off

I'm thinking it is internet related because of the loading time where the "2" comes up, and when I can press join game. And even when the game lets me press join game it will show the server with no people in it. Fuck, I have no idea what to do.
