    Re: Step away from the noob-tube....

    About my only problem with the 40mm GL is that people run around using it as a primary weapon. This is also the case with Engineers running around with 9 Carl Gustav rockets. Several times, I've been shot point blank by a Carl, and the guy who fired the Carl walks away without taking a bit of damage from his OWN ROCKET. There have been only two times I've gotten a kill with a rocket launcher that wasn't a vehicle: Once, when I was getting an angle on a vehicle, an enemy steps JUST in front of the rocket. The second time, I was AT4'ing a wall to make my own way in - someone happened to be in the way.

    Back on topic with the GL. The other two unlocks are so much more useful than having the Grenade Launcher. The Smokes are invaluable for providing your team cover, whether it be from a tank or while they're getting on the M-Com station. There's nothing like laying down a wall of smoke that the enemy has to cautiously advance through, or move around right into a planned defense. And, as Summon said, the 40mm Shotgun is a monster. I got rushed by two guys in one situation, and I shot the 40mm Shotgun through one guy, and it nailed the guy behind him in the same shot, scoring me a double kill. It also has some decent range, making it a visceral CQB weapon.

    The limited use of the Grenade Launcher is to blowing holes in buildings... And that's about it. If you want to blow a hole in a building, have a guy with an AT4 or Carl Gustav do that, otherwise get in the building, and show these people why you have an Assault Rifle, and why they should be afraid of your marksmanship, not your grenades.

    However, people will use what works, and complaining only makes the accused want to use it more, as it becomes a demoralization tactic and gets one team off-kilter. Quiet down about the Grenade Launcher, and it will become less common, just watch. There's nothing more humiliating then getting gunned down by an M9 versus a Grenade Launcher.

    It's interesting Thorsen and I did a test while priming TTP today: We found this:

    Using an AUG.
    Without Magnum rounds no body armour - 7 shot Kill
    With Magnum rounds no body armour - 6 shot Kill
    Without Magnum rounds body armour - 9 shot Kill
    Without Magnum rounds no body armour - 8 shot Kill

    (My #'s may be off a tad for those)

    40mm
    Without ++Explosive rounds no body armour - Kills within ~5ft
    With ++Explosive rounds no body armour - Kills within ~10ft
    Without ++Explosive rounds body armour - Kills within ~2ft
    With ++Explosive rounds body armour - Kills within ~3ft

    Oh and for giggles... We figure that the tracer dart has a range of 220M ~ Not 100% Sure on that though...

    This was a pretty interesting thing for us to try because we didn't find that much difference for the magnum rounds or the body armour when it comes to bullets. What we did notice is that body armour defends a hell of allot better for the explosives. In fact I had to shoot the nade closer to him than usual even with high explosives activated... So I guess if I wanna survive near 40mm hits I'm going with the armour...

    Honestly though this wasn't a GL hater thread, well ok maybe it was... My main gripe has been lack of ammo packs from these guys, and unless you wanna shoot at their feet like Hitler... I'm just frustrated by the lack of kill zone for the GL shooter, or the Carl shooter... Point Blank missiles or 40mm will hurt like a SOB. Now I will retry the 40mm Shotty, just to say I have

    I have an idea just make 40mm grenades randomly self destruct. That way you can still use them but you are taking a chance.

    Correction.

    I was using an M416 at a range of about 20 feet. The range was consistent.

    Firing normal ammunition
    Unarmored= 7
    Armored= 8

    Firing Magnum ammunition
    Unarmored= 5
    Armored= 7

    These were all shots to the lower abdomen.

    Draw what conclusions you want from this, as it seems to be a sort of trivial variance either way when one considers the rate of fire most weapons in this game possess.

    They gave the resupply ability to the guy with the grenade launcher? Cocaine or heroine is the question here.

    Really, I don't see what was wrong with 2142's system. The usually stationary, defensive kit gets the resupply ability, and the only spammy thing he gets is slow, awkward FRG-1 grenades. LMGs do not make sense in large quantities, and when Medics are generally in high number, it takes away the originality and enjoyment...these changes certainly don't make the game sound that great. Almost every game with grenade launchers I've played makes them unbelievably overpowered, Battlefield 2 being one of the rare exceptions. But still, once you become a good shot with them in that game, they can be hard to trump.

    The only kit that seems to not be overpowered is the engi kit. Medic, Assault, and Sniper are all insane with what they can do.

    SOOOOO WHAT!

    If ya got people nube toobing you, call in a decent sniper, a fellow toober, or even an engi with an AT rocket to flush them out. Once again it is all about adapting.

    Yeah, I love to park my ass behind a barricade with a supply box and spam 40mm at buildings hiding enemies until they collapse. I think it makes it seem like more enemies are incoming when the grenades are exploding around you and killing your allies every few seconds too.

    But seriously, giving the grenade launcher guy the ammo was an interesting choice.

    Last night I was wondering why I was getting plastered with 40mm grenades. This thread explains a few things! Sheesh, stop giving away your secrets already. The whole server was tanking me with nades. All I had were medic paddles, promise!

    On a serious note, you guys have some crazy aim with those nades. In the chest everytime!
