transitioning between BC2 and BF2 gameplay

I ran into some issues last night on BF2 transitioning from BC2-style gameplay while trying to catch the tail end of {HRD} BF2 night, mostly dealing with weapon selection (the mousewheel is so lame in BF2, I have a mouse button bound to rapid flip down the weapon list, but in BC2 you can only use the mousewheel and switching between weapons is "fastswitch" without having to click on the weapon to switch to it); using the commo rose (wait I have to click to spot?); forgetting (how) to go prone (as no such option exists in BC2); and dealing with the fact that the SRAW is SACLOS. On the flipside I think I've gained some increased accuracy with automatic weapons; never gotten that many kills with the P90 before or soldier kills with the rocket launcher. :4 :9 :6

I play BC2 as well and have those same problems when coming back haha but BC2 is dumbed down quite a bit for the console. ie, the como rose is gone, you can't go prone... etc. Even though it's fun, I don't think it will ever replace BF2 or 2142. And games made for consoles simply can't compare with games that are specifically made FOR PC. Like BF2 and 2142, and hopefully BF3.

Know what I mean^ And I'm not just sayin that 'cause I'm like a "proud" PC player looking down on console players... I'm saying that because I have both and it's teh truth!

    PC FTW!

Personally I don't like the mouse-wheel as a weapon toggle. I never used that in BF2 either as I've always bound everything to a key or mouse button.

The things that come up the most for me are:

Proning: Often in BF2, I'll forget that yes I can prone

Heavy Weapons Guy: Thanks to the HWG in BF2, I'm always secretly hoping the HWG guy in BC2 will throw me some ammo. When he gives me medz instead, I realize indeed I'm playing BC2 and not BF2

Tanks: Spining the tank turret around quickly and popping smoke are wonderful.

Helos: Meh - do we really have to go there? It's only ever all about the gunner anyway now.

UAV: Woah - those are cool!

For my Helo and Plane fix, I just play BF2. For everything else, BC2 is what I call...."A ground pounder's wet dream."

The problem for me with BC2 is that you cannot bind multiple mouse functions to the same action, either you pick a scrolling axis (i.e. mouse wheel) or you pick a button, not both, whereas in BF2 you can set "previous/next weapon" to both a button and the mousewheel. I only have a that many mouse buttons, one is usually bound to PTT, and in BC2 the other has be bound to melee since there is no separate knife weapon, whereas in BF2, I bind the side buttons to prev and next weapon and I can cycle through them quickly. Reaching up to hit some random number key was always error prone (hit the rifle by accident and suddenly your rifle is semi auto) and too slow for me.

There are tweaks you can make to your input files that will make them spin faster. See http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showp...postcount=1684 If you have not already done so.

Could never get those off the ground before it got shot down
Also since I have my flight controls swapped, the UAV forward-backward is now reversed (since i have "down" map to up-pitch and "up" map to downpitch for the planes), which makes it even harder to use.

Sweet thanks! I have not done so and will definitely check that out. I hope it doesn't qualify as a hack....no no no!

One thing that comes to mind is that in BF2 my mousebutton for the wrench is set as the ERYX in BC2 so here I am hopping out of my Bradley hoping to fix it up with my Black & Decker power tool (BC2's version of wrench) and instead I blow it up, firing my ERYX at point blank range, blowing up both my Bradley and me.

    YAY!!
