Re: Map Strategies
Yeah, I have been trying to SL more, usually it is during the day when there are fewer players on. I have commanded some also but am no where near where I need to be to do a good job at it.
When I asked for Map strategies I think what I am really asking for is what are the most important flags to cap first, second, etc. and which ones are important to defend at all cost.
The shortcuts to flags will come as I play each map more and more. The names of each of the flags are coming along, I am able to do a quick spot on the map to find it and head out using the main roads when given a verbal order of where we are heading next.
I played CS for so long that I know a shit load of maps like the back of my hand that I get frustrated when I don't know where to go and feel like I am slowing down game play for the members that are in the vehicle with me when I have to look.
It doesn't help that I only get to play every third day...usually while I m at work.
thanks for all the information so far, it will help me and I am sure others.

Re: Map Strategies
Practice makes perfect. When SLing, you just have to be aware of your surroundings. Make sure you communicate your needs to the squad and CO. You are in charge of what kits your SM's should have, so don't be afraid to tell them what to spawn with. Many will readily listen, and if they don't listen, remove them from the squad. Same goes for telling people to spawn green or hold spawn. You are in charge and you give the orders. If you can, try and make the first squad when a new round starts because that first squad and the regular SL's are first squads to fill up. As people play with you more, you will see the same people start joining your squad over and over.
As for strategies, that depends. The most important flag varies from map to map and from situation to situation. If you have a 3-man squad, obviously there is no way you will take Intake on Kubra or Airfield on Wake. Hit different flags on the outskirts so your team can spawn closer to the main base. Personally, I like to hit the big flags, but I make sure I have a 6-man squad with extremely good members when I do. One strategy I make use of is jumpjetting with the squad holding spawn, but it's hard to think of every strategy I use off the top of my head. Or you can just join my squad and I will explain why I do what I do.

For SLs: Also if your squad is possessing mechanized or air assets, please listen to your CO and pass FRAGOs back down to your SMs. Sometimes we need the person in your armor to move somewhere or to send your aircraft somehwere; we'll try to use the attack here marker if it makes sense to do so but usually I like to keep that marker reserved for global squad objectives.

Re: Map Strategies
I had a whole response typed up the other day on lunch break and the damned site timed me out and I lost all the information I was going to share with you. So, I'll try again.
I have found that not everyone agrees with how to attack flags, or which ones are more important. I hate feeling like certain flags are more important. As a commander you can see which ones your team is interested in and which ones the enemy are interested in. As a squad leader you need to make yourself aware of which flags your team are interested in. If I had one very important thing to address on the flag issue. Always take enough of the easier flags to stem ticket bleed out. Once that has been done, you can choose to push another objective or defend what you have.
In this game, there are a lot of attackers, if you run with the rest of the team to the next flag; you will eventually find your back flags disappearing. This is not good sound commanding or squad leading. Sometimes you have to take one for the team and defend a flag or two. As commander I have to constantly remind squad leaders to not attack the same damned flag. It's like they don't care, they all want the next flag. Next thing they realize, they look up and there are no other flags to spawn at other than the main. This is stupid but I see it all the time, as a commander and as a squad leader.
Other times as a squad leader, I'll look on the map and we have a plethora of team mates clustered on one or two flags; while the other flags we did have are now neutral. This is terrible fore sight on the commander, the squad leader, & the team mates. Someone should have spoken up and paid attention.
As a squad leader, it may look like I'm going out of my way to spawn on a back flag that no one is defending, but in reality it's almost always a good decision. There will sometimes be an incoming fast mover and we find that we need to defend. The other good reason is, the supply of fast movers to get you to that other flag aren't taken. Therefore insuring that you don't have to wait to move out.
I have been known to not call for specific kits, I feel that it lessens the ability of players who aren't comfortable with certain kits, which almost always ends in someone getting killed needlessly. As commander I don't usually micro-manage a team, I just state what is coming from where and too where. I do my best to give direction to the team on how to approach a map, but I normally let the squad leaders choose for themselves where to go and how to get there. On the rare occasions I call for someone to defend the hell out of a position, it's because we need it. And my pet peeve is a bunch of lemmings stacking up on a flag. I will never call for someone to come clear out the main. Keeping flags and stopping that bleed out is more important than some idiots running around in the main. So long as they're at the main, they can't cap or defend flags.Last edited by 11Bravo; 08-10-10 at 08:01 PM. Reason: Spelling idiocy.

Re: Map Strategies
I will be the first to give out a secret about my strategies - kill RICO! If you want map strategies, join my squad Gunny and I will use VOIP to teach you the ins and outs.
SPAWNING GREEN is the single most important rule to winning while keeping you and your squadmates alive.
The way I learned to swim was my mom threw me(5 years old at the time) into the water and told me to swim. I didn't want to die, so I learned the hard way. What does this have to do with you? Simple, you'll never learn until you get your feet wet. Did you receive a guide and have thorough knowledge before you lost your virginity? No, some things can't be taught, you just have to do. No one (but me) is good their first time, you only get better thru lots of experience.
Remember, the greatest challenge of the SL is to keep his/her squad together at all times.Last edited by iamjohnnyrico; 08-12-10 at 05:42 PM.

Very true Bravo, but at the end of the day, who is responsible for the teams win or the teams loss? And besides, just because someone thinks that their strategy works, needs to have it weighed, measured, and tested on the battlefield first before making any reccommendations.
There are so many people who talk alot on the forums and when it comes to the battlefield they're pathetic and an epic fail. Learn from the best or die like the rest is my motto.
