Map Strategies
Hey everyone,
I have looked for a thread or page here on TPG for map strategies and haven't seen them, am I missing them somewhere
I have seen them posted in different threads but I would like to see them in one place so that I can learn some of better ones. This is usually the reason I don't SL or Command. I think this would help us noobs learn what some of you awesome SL's are trying to do when you give an order.
So did I miss them somewhere?

While this next one may not be hosted on our site that I can find. I know finc.hairy really well. He used to have a link for this in his signature. Since I don't see it and you are asking for assistance I'll link it for you. This is not an endorsement for that other site. It's an alternative read for a commander. That is the only thing I wish to bring to the table here. If I could find his copy of this here I'd just link it instead.

Re: Map Strategies
I don't think anyone has written an actual, in depth full on "Map Strategy" guide that lays out the different avenues of attack and whatnot. One the one hand, it sounds like it'd be kind of fun to put together, though a ton of work. On the other hand, the game is pretty damn old at this point, newcomers are few and far between and I feel like it wouldn't get a whole lot of use. Plus who wants to show the whole world all of their tactics. FINALLY, I bet as soon as anyone posts a strategy for a map, there will be a 5 people disagreeing with that particular strategy and advocating another one which is fine but the conversation usually turns into a Cluster F by page 3.
You'd probably be better off following an SL and just picking up tips from there.
BTW glad to see you on the forums Gunny.

Re: Map Strategies
My map strategies are pretty simple, attack any flag. If we attract a lot of attention, good. That means someone else doesn't have that attention and will be able to push forward. If we get it, great we have another flag. Although if I notice that the other squads are attacking I'll stay back and play some defence on the flags we have. Defence sometimes is way too underrated around here.

Re: Map Strategies
Bravo11, Those are great.
Thanks.
I was actually thinking the same thing as I was typing the post....Good SL's don't want to give out their secrets and then the other good SL's would disagree with them.
I am sure most of you have noticed I do spawn green and usually my goal is keeping the SL alive unless ordered to do something else.
I am trying to pay attention to the SL's and decipher their tactics as we are playing but it is hard to get on the squad with the good ones.
Until I am comfortable with knowing all of a certain map I am reluctant to SL at this point.

Re: Map Strategies
cap flags, shoot bad guys. el fin.
therein lies the catch...probably one of the best ways to get to know a map is to SL, as it forces you focus on the whole battlefield and to think about your next move, as opposed to just having to focus on the SL's order/task at the given time as a SM. how to traverse a map to get to your next objective. how/where to take cover in order to maintain a spawn point. etc. so SL-ing essentially forces you to know/learn a map simply because, well, you have to if you want to succeed in your objectives
similarly, the best way to learn how to SL is to just do it and there you go...two birds, one stone
oh, and the overhead map is your best friend (should be everyone's best friend, but particularly the SL's...default key=caps-lock). you can see where your team is/isn't...where the enemy is/isn't...who has what flags...can place orders and ask for commander assets (right-click for menu of where you want said order/asset (you can also use the "squad" commo-rose, default=T, for quick orders/asset requests from the field))...
