    system freeze up

hey everyone. happy saturday! well, i am sure a lot of you have heard me bitching lately cause my computer keeps locking up on me while i am playing BF2 or SF. when i am playing everything will just lock up. no mouse, sound skips like a scratched cd, nothing moves. total freeze that lasts anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds. then bam, back to normal, but usually dead. ok, it used to not do it and then when i updated my video drivers it started happening. so i rolled my drivers back to the ones that came on the cd. still doing it. i am at a loss here.

also, when i go to device manager i have 2 display adapters listed, radeon x800 series and radeon x800 series secondary. i only have one video card installed. what is that all about? i tried to remove the secondary one but when i restarted the computer it found new hardware and added it again. weird. any help on this would be greatly appreciated. here are my system stats.

    amd athlon 64 3200+
    corsair 1gb pc3200
    powercolor radeon x800GTO
    western digital 120gb

Mouf, you've described the same thing that happens to me. It's not every night and only seems to happen once per session, but its exactly what happenst to me. I also have a 64x2 perhaps there is an inherent problem thats surfacing with the latest patch to BF2.

When i initialy started playing BF2 i had a few technical difficulties. At one point EA recommended setting the affinity to one CPU. I'll try that for a few days and see what happens.

What you see is normal... You have two connections on the back of your vid card so it lists two of them. Its fine and normal. Make sure your vid card is not overheating.. check the dust levels in your case.

Normally software to tell you what the temp is will come with your system board, either that or call the company and ask them.

This same thing happens to me several times a night, sometimes several times a round. Always when I spawn for the first time in a map. I know my vid card is not overheated, temp is displayed on front of case and I had a cooling fan installed for the vc.

I Second the thought of it being the 64 x2 CPU. I had a single core 64bit installed and i couldn't lock up my system if i tried. It ran BF2 GREAT. I upgraded to 64 4400+ x2 and now I'm getting what sounds like the same problem but i think its only the game so far. PRIME95 stable over night...(both cores)

EDIT: I tried setting the affinity last night to one core don't think it made a differance. I was playing single player mode Co-Op so I had bots and it still froze which takes out my internet connection. I also notice LOTS of glitching after the upgrade.
