Re: BF2 Questions
Thanks Gunny I actually did that post reading the PDF lol, and did it on hard, in Karkand, Dalain and they listened to me pretty well, much like the players I enjoy playing with on the TPG BF2 Server LOL.
Smoken much appreciated for the advice I think I have like 12 hours of Engineer time and a Total of 5 Repair points from Disabling Mines and Repairing its Rediculous LOL, I may get one repair point every 5 maps as an engineer lol. But will definately keep that in mind and thanks both of you for the Warm Welcome.

Re: BF2 Questions
Engineers don't get repair points for picking up enemy mines (or enemy claymores for that matter). Engineers do get repair credit for repairing: 1) Commander assets, 2) team vehicles (tanks, APCs, vehicles PROVIDED THEY ARE OCCUPIED BY A TEAM MATE), 3) fixed Anti-aircraft, TOW emplacements (PROVIDED THEY ARE OCCUPIED BY A TEAM MATE), 4) Supply crates (some people don't know that Engineers can wrench these and get credit).

Re: BF2 Questions
Regarding ranking sites, I also use BF2Tracker.com.
Basic Engineer Repair badge - be an engineer on top of a mobile AA (preferably a USMC Linebacker) on Dragon Valley, Highway Tampa, Operation Harvest or other vehicle maps it's on. The key is to have someone driving it that is using it to kill ground troops as well as enemy air assets. It needs to be in the thick of battle. Ideally, the driver is a squad leader that you can spawn in on when you die. Basic Knife, just commit to using only the knife during the round. Your K/D ratio will be awful and you'll not be helping your team much. Good map for it is Karkand or Jalalabad...anywhere that you have good conditions for close quarters combat situations where you can sneak up on enemy without them having much opportunity to see and shoot you. Pistol badge - pretty much same as knife. Just commit to pistol and click fast.
On Commanding, go to this Guide. I found years ago that the pictures along with the text helped me get it quicker.

Re: BF2 Questions
A few pointers from someone with 200+ hrs and 33K+ pts Commanding ...
COMMANDING
- The guide is wrong. The Commander is not selected based on rank or Commander hours or points. It is simply goes to whoever applies first. As a 3-star, I've lost Commander elections to low ranks who don't even have as much Total score/hours as I do just Commanding.
- Commander Points - the Commander does not get points for killing or capping flags. He could kill every enemy and cap every flag and won't get a single point. The Commander’s points comes from the average of his team’s Teamwork score. So whatever you can do to enhance your teammates’ killing/capping/defending, the better your score will be. This includes limiting the use of Arty after a certain point. Don’t be so anxious to use Arty in the last minutes unless the score is close. If my team has at least a 50 ticket lead, rarely will I drop Arty. If I do, it’s usually in support of taking a strategic flag (the Intake on Kubra) or to discourage/delay the enemy from a particular line of attack or just to whack a do-nothing Sniper (theirs or mine).
- A Commander should always be an Engineer! Not only can you repair your own assets but, when zoomed in on team vehicles, you can see if they are in need of repair via supply crate without having to ask.
- Arty does not fall in the same place on every map. On some maps, it falls more to one side or the other of the actual aimpoint. Practice in an empty server and take notes. EX: On Dalian, the shots fall to the right and up from the actual aimpoint. If you want to hit, say the helo pad at Main Entrance, aim to the left and down about 10m and you’ll hit the pad just about every time. Learn these variances and you'll be able to hit what you want to hit and miss those you don't want to hit.
- Learn to lead a moving target with Arty. It takes 10 seconds from when you drop Arty and the first round hits. So say you spot a squad moving toward a flag - where do you aim to hit them? Again, practice on an empty server. Run from a fixed starting point towards another for 10 seconds. Using the Commander screen, zoom in and note how far you got and that’s the amount of lead you need to allow. Again, the scale is different map-to-map, so take notes. Eventually, you won’t need notes. If you aren't too busy, you can simply watch a group of red dots move, note how far they get in 10 seconds, plot ahead, and drop.
- Don't wait to be asked to drop Arty! Drop it and keep dropping it until the need for it is gone. Even if it just kills one! That just may be the winning kill!
- TK’ing with Arty. Sorry but sometimes you just gotta do it! If you have 2 defenders on a strategic flag that’s about to get overrun by a superior force, go ahead on drop Arty on it. Better to hold the flag and suffer a few TK’s than to lose the flag, especially if it puts your team into ‘bleed’.
- SCAN - run scans constantly. Be on the look out for an ‘end-run’ by the enemy.
- Eye in the Sky - just because you’ve lost your Scan and UAV doesn’t mean you can’t Q-spot or zoom in to give verbal info.
- Squad Leaders - take note of who your squad leaders are, especially the good ones. If they're on your team, give their squads special attention. And if they’re on the other team and you note a tight group of red dots moving effectively, give them your special attention too! And fook those lone-wolf SL’s perched atop a bldg or crane!
- UAV - on many maps, the UAV can be used to cover 2 or more flags. Learn those sweet spots.
- Don’t put a UAV over an area that has no friendlies! And don't Q-spot remote enemies either!
- Don’t always put the UAV directly over a objective but skew it toward advancing troops. It gives them a better view of what's between them and the objective. That's more useful than what's on the far side of the objective.
- Learn when NOT to drop - dropping supplies or vehicles on SL’s can give their position away and alert the enemy to their presence. Withhold drops from SL’s on foot unless they ask for it or ask them if they want it.
ENGINEER
- As already mentioned, you do not get Repair Points for picking up mines.
- You cannot hold more than 5 mines. When 'swapping' mines, deploy your own first then pick up the other mines. BTW, if you're quick, you can pick up your old mines after respawning. This helps on maps like Jalalabad where getting resupplied can be tough.
- Repair Points are based on the time spent 'wrenching' (approx 20 seconds), not the number of objects repaired. A few turns here and there add up.
- Expert Engineer is a bitch and actually takes a bit of 'cooperative gameplay'. I got mine on a server that allowed UCB attacks. The map was Clean Sweep and the MEC had the US pinned to their UCB and the baserape was on. I spent the whole round repairing assets and vehicles. And the enemy would bomb/blow them faster than I could repair. Actually, 2 of us got our Expert Engineer badges that round and we died a LOT! I doubt I would have gotten it if it weren’t for the baserape. That, and if the Commander dropped a supply crate, I’d nade it and, if I caught a Spec Ops about to blow an asset, my aim wasn’t so good until AFTER he blew it.
