I have to say that not being able to see at a (medium to long) distance confuses me.
It depends on the map for the fog distance, but that is a good estimation of it for most maps. To maximize how far you can see make sure the view distance slider is at 100% and the geometry settings are as high as possible. Higher resolutions will make the objects in the distance clearer and the effects on high will let you see things like vapour trails from jets more clearly.

Note: Your "view" is not circular but square. You can 'see' farther into the corners than you can straight ahead. So, if you're wanting to know what lies just beyond the 'fog', turn to the side and look at the edge of your field of view.

It's little things like these that give us long-timers a slight edge.

Below's an example. On Oman, looking from the beach at Olive Hill towards the hill at the Village flag. Looking straight ahead you can just barely make out the hill. But turn about 45º and now you can see the bldg atop the hill and even anyone standing up there. Use this when sitting in a HMMV at TV on Sharqi and pickoff tangos at Construction with the MG.

Any tips on how to accurately bomb? Is there anything I can look at in the crosshair area to aim bombs with or something?

The only thing i can tell you is angle of approach changes the tragectery of the bombs. Practice by going after small targets like arty positions. This is when priming comes in handy. You can get hours of practice before a round starts.
