03-06-11, 09:03 PM #121That is a great question for the admins and regulars of that game. My point being we shouldn't make server configuration decisions based on what the masses that we probably could care less if they ever play here or not want. We should make them based on what OUR players want, like you said.

Re: Regular or Harcore
How can you say regular mode will cause people to run around like idiots? Especially when all this time in effort went into developing rules and a TS3 server so players can hear each other. Are you suggesting that the rules and players who play at TPG couldnt teach noobs organization?

Thats CSS though, it doesn't have hardcore and normal mode, in BC2 it has HC and Vanilla and that's how the server browser sorts, the way DICE has it is if you change anything it then is put under HC in the browser, what WileE is saying is that TPG would go full vanilla to get in the vanilla part of the server browser.

One server is vanilla and the other no awp and auto shotty. That's a distinct difference and TPG is able to keep them both running just fine.

Yes, but the CSS server is not only smaller so needs less of a playerbase, but also is more popular as a game(steam rankings), but also has something that is different from other servers immediately, the enforced teamplay and slaying for not following calls. The BC2 server has nothing different at first glance as the VOiP in-game doesn't work and people don't usually go out of their way to join random TS's so what you get is for most people a generic server experience.

03-07-11, 09:20 AM #128Excuses are like assholes, everybody has one and most of them stink. If you want to say YOU don't like a particular mode then so be it, but to say the general public won't play it is speculation at best. Funny how on one hand people say there is nothing unique about our BC2 server, but then when unique settings are mentioned the same people say it will never work because it has to be pure HC or vanilla. If we are going by what the general public thinks then we might as well shut down ALL of our servers because with our stupid rules and admins they are all doomed to fail.

There's a huge difference between CSS and BC2, Civil. The servers haven't always had differing configurations (other than Top 5 vs full rotation). As stipulated by bigdog, second servers are added when the demand is deemed necessary when reservists can no longer connect to the server because it's full of reservists. This is why both CSS and TF2 both have 2 servers. We are nowhere near having the server 100% full of reservists. For every success story we have for supporting multiple servers, we have failures. BF2 and 2142 both tried multiple servers and both failed miserably. We tried the 'Top 5' format in BF2, we tried having a conquest-only and titan only format in 2142 (as well as Top 5) and all that ended up happening was one server sat empty or both servers were half full. It caused undue strain on the admins having to support both servers and caused several of our admins to burn out or leave TPG completely. So tell me exactly what 2 BC2 servers is going to buy us?

03-07-11, 09:47 AM #130First, at least twice when we tried a second BF2 server the failure was hardware related, and nit player-base related. Second, maybe nothing. As stated before I rarely play BC2, so I am not arguing for or against any particular settings based on MY desires. My argument is that I do know personally of probably 8-10 people that refuse to play on our server because it is hardcore. Add to that the 5 or so that play here anyway, but prefer vanilla, and you have about half a server of admins and regs. Once you have a server half full ransoms will usually top it off. Will it work every time? I don't know the answer to that any more than you do, but if it does work at least some of the time then as I said before maybe we get the next civil, bunni, wile, etc out of it.
