    Small squads vrs biggens ones

I sometimes hear banter about one or two person squads. I really don't see the big deal. They are in a squad, therefore can still take commands. After all, there are things small squads can do that I personally would not send a bigger squad. Fixing stuff for instance or sniping, or grabing that pesky loner trying to cap a flag by himself.

Whenever I have commanded on this server there has always been a nice mix of both big and small squads. For any decent commander there are jobs for both to do.

I personally spend most of my time on this server leading a squad and I'm not too thrilled if my squad is full and 2 people are flying around, 1 person is off sniping 2 miles away, ect..... I would rather they form their own smaller squads if thats what they want to do.

There is advantages to big AND small squads, face it most of the time the small squads are the ones that want to go off and snipe or fly around in the helo/jet. Big squads are definently more afective and in my view more fun. 9/10 times you will get more points if you are in a big squad, runnin around followin orders.

    My thoughts.

In my personal opinion big squads are better and can accomplish a lot more. You have more squad members you help you, you can command them to do whatever you want pertaining to the game. It's a easier command to me, but requires a tad more skill though. Big Squads play a bigger role in TeamPlay which is what TTP thrives to push.

Re: Small squads vs. biggers ones

The problem comes in when you have 4 or 5 squads of only 1 or 2 players and 1 or 2 squads of 4-5 players. On a full server this is a severe disadvantage. The main reason people are griping; they are tired of losing because people think their own little war is bigger than the TEAM. If you want to WIN the GAME, it's imperative that there be at least 4-5 full squads. A small squad has effectiveness; ONLY if they are doing something that changes the balance of the game. They can not overcome the other team having fully functional squads. I can take a fully loaded squad and hit a flag, cap it in 1/6 of the time it takes 1 lone player. The lone player has to have the luxury of time to neutralize a flag, then cap it before he gets whacked. Against a decent team he stands a slight chance of making it happen {i do not call this balance changing}. Against a good-great team, he's toast {dead is dead, without someone to revive his ass he wasted his time and his teams tickets}. And on this server with the decent to great players who are ever learning how to better play this game {he's dead}. Also, it's entirely ineffective to issue a supply crate to a Squad of 1 {waste of team assets}. What commander in their right mind would issue a UAV to a Squad of 1?

Difference makers are not 1 or 2 man squads. They do their best to recruit other players who are not in a Squad to theirs, so that they can become those 'changing the balance of the game' squads. Also, from personal experience, 1 to 2 man squads are usually not on the mic sharing information. Therefore, when they do get other people into their squad, they are not able to issue the simplest of orders to get the guys in their squad to work at a common objective. Me personally, i love being able to call in a bomb drop on a hard target so i can get my troops around them. Also, having a squad of 4 is at least self-sufficient {medic + support, with some armor grunts}. Only thing a 1-2 man squad can do is be fast and mobile, not stand and fight {or take a Tank or APC alone, this hurts the teams ability to use armor properly and transport troops}. That is the only way you can effectively use a 1 or 2 man squad. Squad of 1 guy in jeep running at Mosque to attempt to take the flag on his own is a waste of man power and equipment. There are better ways of attacking, use your heads, your brains can keep you alive when you are out of ammo. When your ASS is Dead because you thought you were better than the rest of the TEAM, means you just cost us a ticket. Dead people can not and never have been able to capture or defend flags.

And as i've said before to others. Take some time to read CapNemo's post http://www.texasteamplayers.com/foru...p?topic=8968.0 . It's not just good reading material for commanders, it's GREAT and IMPERATIVE READING for Squad Leaders. If you wish to be a better Squad Leader for your troops and your team then take a little time to read it. It's essential to TEAMPLAY. If you think you know better then keep your self out of that post and then wonder why i will usually have the TOP Squad On MAPS. I thrive on Squad Leading. It's my best asset to the team, being an effective Squad.

    Yeah, what he said. ^
If you didn't catch that link in Bravo's post, you can also find it at the bottom of my sig. :P

Now, on TTP, you usually don't have two of the regulars sitting all alone in a squad, they'll usually go find a bigger squad and fill it up. From a commander's point of view, it could be very worthwhile to have a squad of perhaps three to do mop-up in the backfield sometimes. It would even be insanely fun to have a tactical squad of three to fill up a dune buggy, race into the opponent's backfield, and cause chaos.

However, it definately wouldn't be helpful to have six squads of three. If that were the case, I'd probably be fairly pissed off and tell my squad leaders to consolidate their squads or invite members.

After you've squaded up with a TTP big squad, all else pales. I'm spoiled by that now. I wouldn't join small squads if I didn't have to.

Two nights ago I joined a big squad with some TTP regulars. One person took the sniper kit and climbed a smokestack on the Oilfield map. He was our squad "UAV" and reported enemy positions. Quite effective.

Was Bird on that squad? Bird taught me that trick. I LOVE doing that now. Bird, you are like the crack dealer of TTP tactics. First taste is always free. But after that...

No, it wasn't Bird. I don't recall the player's name offhand. When I play Sniper I always spot enemy positions with the spotting rose, but that doesn't seem to be as effective as being told over VOIP that there is one guy behind the fence at the main gate, one in the guard shack, and tank rolling in, etc.
