Hello all,
Checking on the status of BF2 map rotations. Goblin Jim was exploring some scripting ideas to randomize maps a while back; unfortunately, that did not fit in with the requirements to run the TPG ranked server ( http://www.teamplayergaming.com/batt...ml#post1446282 ).
A week or two back I did see some new maps on the BF2 server (some of the armored fury maps included with the last BF2 patch). However, things have returned to the same routine maps every night.
Recognizing there is value in using certain "priming maps" (which have a variety of toys available while priming), could the in game maps following priming be rotated -- even if done manually once a week or so? My stats show very heavy time on Gulf of Oman and Karkand, to the point where I will go to another server when I come across those maps (further stalling priming*** granted, I'm no atlas on the battlefield). It would be nice to explore some of the other maps on TPG BF2. I ended up receiving my N.A. badge on the G4L servers, as N.A. maps so seldom come up on TPG BF2.
While stirring things up, might there be any interest from the community in having one night of the week do map rotations after a single round? Recognizing it is nice to play a map from both sides, helping make clear if it's the terrain or the team that won a map; there is also a certain benefit to playing only a single round on a map, and instead seeing a larger variety of maps for an evening.
Don't get me wrong -- this (TPG) server is great -- I'm not trying to break things, only put in a couple of my cents/opinions.
best,
donfede

Re: BF2 map rotations - status and future
The admins are always thinking about map rotations. If you want you can submit a rotation in the forums and it will be discussed by the admins. Also, the admins can change to a different map if enough players request it and is discussed alot among the admins while playing.
Gulf of Oman has shown in the past to be our best priming map that is why it is the first map. Just remember that there is more than 1 players opinion.
I am looking at making a rotation to submit. Feel free to make one yourself.

Don......Don't ever think your opinion isn't welcome here. It absolutely is. This is what the forums are for, and we welcome all feedback. If you ever have any suggestions that help make TPG the place you want to play, by all means.....we are all ears.
As for the rotation......good idea. It has been getting a bit stale (it's been about a month since the last rotation).
New rotation coming soon. Very soon.

Re: BF2 map rotations - status and future
A bit stale? We've all (well, most all) been playing this game so long that a new rotation gets stale after about 3 days. After a month, it feels like half of the maps don't even exist anymore.
I've never worked on the back end, but I think the ideal scenario would involve changing the rotation at the start of each day. You could could come up with eight different rotations that you load up sequentially. That way people who play a couple days in a row would see different maps, as well as those in only play on certain days each week.
Like I said before, I'm not sure if the daily rotation change is asking too much or not. If it is, then how about changing the rotation every week? This could be done with a small pool of rotations, say about 5-10, so that it takes a couple of months for a rotation to be repeated. Initially this pool could be made up of rotations used by TPG in the past, but as time goes on, people could submit rotations to be added to (or replace other rotations) in the pool. If records of old rotations haven't been kept, I could just throw together a bunch of rotations that the admins could pick from or tweak to their liking to start the pool initially.
Is something like this plausible?

Re: BF2 map rotations - status and future
It would have been great, if you could see farther than 10m....
Anyway, I just want to say that I'm glad Darqin is once again at the very beginning of the map rotation. I still think it makes a better priming map than oman, but eh, that's just my opinion. Bring back Fushe Pass and it would be near perfect imo.
