More on BF3 and Steam - Blue's News Story
A note on Develop has further indications that Battlefield 3 will not be released through Steam, as speculation mounts that DICE's military shooter sequel will not appear on Valve's download service. They quote a comment from a report from financial research firm Baird based on a meeting with GameStop: "The upcoming EA title Battlefield 3 will be sold as a download through GameStop, but not through Steam," Baird says GameStop executives told them. "Given Steam's dominance – and insistence on users downloading a Steam client application – publishers are likely to be receptive to a competitive alternative." Thanks Computer and Video Games.

Re: More BF3/Steam rumors
actually the rumors of BF3 not on steam is completely true... So basically steam is out of the picture when buying to buy a game from...
I would recommend Impulse as a direct download site... they are fairly similar to steam and better than origin... They have those deals that steam does and they do look towards indie games.
Impulse Driven : Home : Digital Download Store, Latest Gaming News
Also Impulse has deals going on right now for games

I'm sorry if this is a noob question, but if BF3 is not being sold on steam how are all the TPG players going to play together. You won't be able to know when all or some of your friends are playing and we won't even be able to send out events or announcements to let everyone know we are priming. I'm just so used to looking at my steam friends list to see who is all on and it will be weird when I don't. I guess all I would have to do is check the website/servers to see who is playing, but still.
Also if we buy hard copy will you be able to plug in the CD code on steam and download it from there? When the game does come out I think it would be nice if we a thread that anyone who bought the game posted where they bought if from: gamestop, origin, etc.

Re: More BF3/Steam rumors
DICE, is shooting themselves in the foot I believe; there are a lot of steam users out there. Or, does DICE think its users are to stupid to download it form anything other then there EA download manager, GameStop, or whatever they call copy cat steam (origin; I think).
Respectfully,
