Re: this rotation sucks
This will be the 3rd time this solution has been presented, if I need to post it up again just let me know. . I might be able to post it up every friday if that would help.. Thank you.
Ok. My first idea was just to make a ton of rotations and post them here. Instead I decided to come up with a system that makes the rotations for you. Let me explain.
I began by assigning each map a ranking of A1, A2, A3, C1, or C2. A = air and C= city. Any map with jets was categorized as an A, and the rest as C’s. The number in the ranking is my estimation of a combination of the map’s popularity and its priming ability.
Within these groups, I shuffled the maps around (originally they were simply alphabetized) to create an order which had a little bit of variety. This left me with the following groups:
A1: Gulf of Oman, Daqing Oilfields, Operation Road Rage, Dalian Plant, Midnight Sun
A2: Kubra Dam, Fushee Pass, Wake Island, Dragon Valley
A3: Operation Clean Sweep, Operation Smokescreen, Zatar Wetlands, Taraba Quarry, Highway Tampa
C1: Mashtuur City, Strike and Karkand, Sharqi Peninsula, Road to Jalalabad
C2: Great Wall, Songhua Stalemate, Operation Blue Pearl, Operation Harvest
I then created the following list:
1) A1
2) A1
3) C1
4) A2
5) C2
6) A3
7) C1
A2
9) C1
10) A1
11) C1
12) A1
13) C2
14) A1
15) A2
16) C2
17) A2
1 C2
19) A3
20) A3
21) A3
22) A3
I built map rotations from this list by inserting a map from each group into the corresponding spots on the list. When doing so, I went in the order of the maps as listed in each group. For example, the first A1 was Gulf of Oman, and the second A1 was Daqing Oilfields for the first map rotation. For the following rotations I moved the first map in each group to the end of the group and re-made the rotation.
These are the first five rotations that I got using this process:
Gulf of Oman
Daqing Oilfields
Mashtuur City
Kubra Dam
Great Wall
Operation Clean Sweep
Strike at Karkand
Fushee Pass
Sharqi Peninsula
Operation Road Rage
Road to Jalalabad

I made the rotations this way for a couple of reasons. Mainly, it allows for a new rotation to be generated quickly and easily on a weekly basis. The first map of each group simply gets moved to the back of its respective group and the rotation is filled out according to the list.
Additionally, this list guarantees that every map will make its way into the first seven maps of the rotation at least once every five weeks. I don’t know about everyone else, but I don’t think I’ve played some of the maps on this server in months, or maybe even the past year. These uncommon maps are inserted into a part of the rotation when the server is generally at one of its more stable times during the day or at the very end of the rotation, which never gets played anyway. This was done so that these maps could be played without overly hindering the server’s health.
As someone who generally helps prime a couple days each week, I also wanted to mix up the priming map. You’ll notice that each A1 map is used as a priming map. I chose them because they have lots of air toys, flag spacing that is not overly taxing on ground troops, and an uncap for each team. If necessary, the fist A1 could simply be made Oman permanently, but personally I’d really like to see some variety.
I’m not always the best at explaining things, so just ask if you still have any questions. I really hope this system or something similar can be implemented immediately.Last edited by Fred Fargle; 10-21-11 at 06:33 PM.

Re: this rotation sucks
The last time the server was in the top 100 was when I was actively pushing not only the rotations generated from that suggestion, but the weekly implementation of a new rotation as well. Shortly after this stopped, the server dropped back out of the top 100 (this was about a month before the BF3 beta also, so that is a non-factor).
At this point I wouldn't recommend this or even my own suggestion from a couple months ago. BF3 has done everything but stick a knife in the proverbial heart of this BF2 server. The only way it's going to get some action is if you do something drastic, ie, stick the 10 best maps in the first 10 slots rotation. Something like the best three priming maps as the first three maps wouldn't hurt either.

Re: this rotation sucks
cornfuse, we can have absolutely anything with the map rotation if hoster would alow us to add this script. And the idea about starting with a couple of best priming maps and then going random is the best one. That's excatly what I wanted, and it's a piece of cake to code.
As for me, I don't think bf3 is going to kill bf2. I'm still going to play bf2.
@Gunny Hmmm, first time I hear about some kind of an app for server and EA market. Can you tell me more about it?
