It's no different than any of the 2 previous Battlefield games (2142, BC2). You had an EA account (and password.) After you logged in you selected an individual Soldier name.
Where Steam and EA differ is that Steam assigns a unique identifier on your user account (Steam ID) and EA assigns a unique identifier to each soldier (GUID). Ultimately the Steam way allows for people to change their in-game name to be whatever they want without losing statistics for the user. EA maintains stats for each soldier individually and doesn't allow for names to be changed.

i think they added a overtime type gameplay
There will also be a few notable changes to the Rush gameplay:
You cannot use explosives or shoot at the M-COM to take it out. Only arm and disarm.
If the attacking team arms the M-COM, but runs out of tickets, the match will continue until the M-COM detonates or defenders disarm it
If the defenders start disarming an M-COM just before it’s about to blow, the explosion is prevented until the disarm is accomplished. If the defender gets killed during the disarm process, the M-COM will instantly blow
