Thread: BF3 Server

Anymore info on this? How are we looking at this point? I see there are like $1.30 for a public slot right now. Also, any idea on if you can get a beta server if you preorder a server?

Beta servers aren't available to the general public. EA releases the beta server code to a limited subset of Ranked Server Providers. You can rest assured we will indeed have a server on release day. It'll likely be with GameServers (our current Ranked provider for BF2 & BC2). Until we have a handle on costs (server cost, net gain/loss of reserved slots, etc) we'll likely only have a single server. Good thing is, GameServers can stand up servers quickly (within hours of request) so we won't have to wait long to expand when it makes financial sense.

I thought that you used to be able to get a beta server through the RSP to sort of advertise that you will have one for the release. It would act exactly like the release server as far as your name and server rules on it. I guess that is a thing of the past.

Yeah. EA/DICE are much more restrictive about who gets to do what with the server code. They claim it's in the name of security... but with all the hackers that abound in their games... it's really just an excuse to cover for their control-freak nature. The way I figure it... I'll use the opportunity to test out the different server providers and see who has the best pings and performance in-game.

Me and Enu did that in BC2. NFO servers were by far the best back then in that beta.
