So i have to say it does seem stupid.
The difference is BF2 had what a dozen unlocks, all of which were different guns? BF3 has tons of unlocks, and they are not just guns. Some are tools, some are weapons, some are vehicle specific. Some you get for ranking up, but others you get for getting kills/points with a specific weapon, class, or vehicle. I actually prefer the unlock system. It rewards people for sticking with whatever weapon/class/vehicle, and does not allow someone to fly a jet for 2 seconds and be an instant death machine.

As I said numerous time, by putting hours into flying, you already get an incredible advantage against other, less experienced player : Skill. I do not think that, on top of that, you should be rewarded with perks they don't have access to beat them up even more easily
Someone who plays gets rewarded with unlocks. What's the problem? That is how it should be. The beginner guns are some of the best guns in the game and we have many pros here that still use them, even though they have tons of other stuff unlocked. Someone who has been jet whoring since day 1 is going to school you because they have skill and know how to fly. Their plane unlocks is not going to be the game changer. At least this is true on TPG, where we have many skilled players...

How is that any different than buying BF2 years after release and trying to compete on TTP with people who have been playing since day 1? I had to learn all the maps, tricks, and other things that made me a better player. I had a less than 1 kpd for quite some time after I found TTP.

By that logic tanks are what they are...soldiers are what they are.

We aren't in bootcamp, or any other school, so I should already know how to use all the weapons, and have them available to me day 1.

Its one thing to unlock new weapons but this is one where they gave you the tool but no weapon. A jet without rockets/bombs might as well be an unarmed tank. Yet the tank has its main weapons.
