10-13-11, 12:30 PM #1challenging badges
Hello all,
Seeing the friendly n00b "hello" messages about, I thought maybe some of the less n00b players could put in a couple notes on challenging badges.
My current struggles have been with:
a) Vet. Explosives (20 kills w/ explosives) :
One option I see is to consistently keep changing kits (engy, sniper, specop), and mine the battle field all over ... however I don't think that is too realistic, as I would have to keep finding kits (or keep dying).
Another option is to buddy up with a support person, and use the sniper kit to clay an IO point. I recall one particularly dastardly sniper that would clay-kill a person, then have another clay ready to take out the medic en-route to revive (if lucky getting an additional 2 kills).
Optimistically, another angle might be to specop/C4 a blackhawk this is full... but that would require stealth to get onto the hostile base, and I'm not sure if I could pull that stunt off 3x times in a single round ...
b) Vet. Ground Defense (10 kills w/ from mounted mg or TOW) :
TOW is my angle here ... I cannot stand the wimpy mounted machine guns: they don't seem to have any accuracy, they do little damage, and they make one an easy targets for snipers. So, I'm hoping to get lucky and take out some full vehicles with a TOW, which will hopefully get me the 10 required kills (Sharki USMC ?). The easy route would be to command/arty from a TOW, but I'd like to try and get real kills.

On the flip side, I've heard other more veteran players than I, complain about Vet. Pistol and Basic Knife badges, which I've managed to get (admitedly not on TPG servers). I found these badges benefited from a more stealthy approach (something I'm not generally prone to), which is not necessarily team-player tactics.
Vet. pistol (7 kills) I got with the specop kit, taking out unsuspecting bodies. Practice offline with bots, aiming for the head was well spent time. While it takes ~8 pistol shots to the body for a kill, only ~3 shots to the head are needed. Alas, I never managed the sniper "shoot rifle/swap to pistol" procedure (but sniper is also my weakest kit). Finding a 64 player server that was about half full was also useful.
Basic knife (7 kills) I also got using stealth tactics, flanking the enemy and attacking them from behind. The classic attack is jumping onto a flag which the other side is trying to cap, and knifing the complete squad ;-D. Switching between standing and prone is useful, forcing the opposition to re-aim. Initially I tried with the sniper kit, which has a uniform that is not easily discernible... but my success ended coming using the assault kit, which benefited from the extra armor.
Acquiring both of these badges came from dedicated focus, and using the target weapon for the greater part of the round. My stats likely suffered, but are slowly improving .
best,

Re: challenging badges
Nope, nope, nope.... You all got it wrong.
Put C4 on Jets, DPV, Tanks, APC, Choppers (Attack or transport). Then use that vehicle as suicide transport... Man, I don't know how many people I've killed with a C4'ed Jets. It's fuck'en funny as shit. Ramming, a packed F-35/Chopper with C4 into a Stinger from a high alt. Bruce knows what I'm talking about... Or driving a tank/APC/DPV into one guy/or tank/s Then Boom!!!! Man do BF2 corpses fly far...
Also, great wall with claymores works well....
Sniper kit Rulez biatches....... AMAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAA... I kill you all...
Respectfully,

Re: challenging badges
I got the veteran ground defense badge on a jalalabad 27/7 server, while manning the tow at the very first MEC base... lot's of buggies to take down, and tanks aren't that much of a problem neither...
As for the vet. expl. badge, i got it on Ghost Town, by spamming gaymores all over the place...
By the way.... I can't believe anyone managed to get 20 repair point in a round... It's fucking impossible...

Re: challenging badges
Sniper is the best way to get explosives. You can have to many claymore kills.
Dont lay them out in the open like many do. As you already know if you can see it you can crawl past it. Dont put them right at a corner. Keep them a bit back. Once you round the corner its to late. Bushes and trees are your friend. One spot i love is on breat wall. First flag inside the fort has a tree beind it. Around that tree is tall grass and clays cant be seen.
Knifing is less about stealth then knowing the game. Its great if you can sneak up but you have to remember once your close to jump the last little bit. If your in the air they cant hear foot steps coming. Aim a bit to the right of your target and you'll make contact more often.
