The good:
I like how most maps are spread out. I like that there are multiple paths to flags, and that there are multiple objectives. With BC2, even on conquest, the maps seemed linear, so it was difficult to find a path to a flag without meeting resistance. However, there are some maps, Op Metro, that just boil down to a plain ol' choke point spam fest.
I also like the unlock system. I like that you have many items to unlock, not just a few new guns. They also implemented the 2142-style scoring system where you get more points for completing an objective designated by your SL, which rewards teamplay.
The bad:
The commorose leaves much to be desired. I miss calling for ammo, meds, and other things that are missing. I know you can call for these by looking at a player that is a support or medic and Q spotting, but what if a medic isn't in my line of sight?
I am not a fan of 4 man squads. I think in time it will work, but with 32 players per team I would like 6 man squads to be able to offer more kit diversity within a squad.
One other thing I noticed, and heard on TS some, is people having a hard time telling friend from foe. I know I TKed a few people, sorry again Chray, just because I knew there were enemies in the area, and an ally popped around the corner. I also heard, and experienced, situations where an enemy was between myself and an ally, so the allies tag looked like it was over the enemy's head, so I didn't shoot soon enough, and died.
The ugly:
VoIP not being in the game is a total failure. It is VERY difficult to organize a squad using TS especially when everyone from both teams are in the same channel. I know we will get our TS issues worked out so that we have team, or even squad, based channels that work, but EA dropped the ball by not including this at launch.
The unknown:
I can't really comment totally on air assets being over/under-powered yet as I don't feel we have seen the full effects, but to this point I have yet to see an air asset dominate an entire map as they did in BF2.
Just a few items I have come up with after a couple of days.

Re: BF3 thoughts
Got to play finally a few hours last night. Besides the same issues everyone has already mentioned, the game is FANTASTIC. I love the feel of the action. It's smooth, the reg seems great, and you really have a lot of options on how to attack the flags. The graphics are just gorgeous. If you really want to conceal yourself, there is plenty of cover. The teamplay I've experienced thus far just makes me that much more excited. Intense firefights down alleyways can last a while(fun!) and it's very cool to see a small skirmish turn into an all out brawl as both teams realize the importance of the flag they are trying to take.
Also, I think the damage is just fine and IMO don't think we need to do HC (60% health)... Anyways, this is just some of the things off the top of my head, but I will update with a lengthier review in a minute...
PS: Jakt you're a rocket whore! Darktower(EvilMonstar in game) was getting quite upset with you last night! LOLS....

Re: BF3 thoughts
I just took a peek at EA's BF3 forums in the US/UK...
WOW. People are hammering the game.
Basically they are pissed about the same things we already know.
-terrible squad management
-can't give orders to squad members
-no VOIP
-no commarose
-terrible mini-map

Eh? It's the same squads management minus 6 man, and being able to name the squad whatever you wanted. You can give orders to squad mates its just rather generic like BC:2 (attack/defend). I fucking hate no in-game VOIP.... Commo is in-game, I'm sure it will get more useful in later patch. Mini map was fixed just hit "N" and you get full micro map. So basically one thing isn't there that's very much needed the rest is in game one shape or another.

Re: BF3 thoughts
I need to do some more tweaking to get it running smoother myself. But last night I installed, quick configured everything and just jumped right in. Very first thing I did was get into a chopper and had a blast till a jet locked on me and wasted it after I bailed (the visuals and audio of that moment were EPIC). Graphically this game with its huge open maps is amazing! I'm still getting the hang of the gameplay feel. Whats weird is it feels totally different from the beta. The mouse sens/speed seems different, like acceleration is turned off, i'm sure I just need to fuck with the settings.
Had an awesome clan moment when we played a map (dont remember the name) and had this grand shootout in an alleyway choke point for a flag. Awesome teamwork and communication going on during that fight, felt really good. Tried playing a little TDM and that was horrible, which is sad seeing how much I love deathmatch. Felt very COD campy...
The Awe factor still got me by the nuts as I find myself staring at scenery during slow moments all the time. Overall I am really liking this game and it feels like the next step up from BC2. Not quite as strategic as BF2, but I think there is plenty of potential as long as DICE patches right.
