I am not speaking of making sure a flag is clear, or an SL providing a spawn point, I am talking about someone sitting on top of a crane sniping from over 100 clicks from the nearest flag while the enemy team holds 4 of the 5 flags on the map.

Yes, but you can also use the spawn beacon in a secluded place to allow your squad to spawn closer to the front as well.

Agree 100% or at least the SL has a member lay one down on the meat grinder maps. I think the best things about the beacons is that it allows the full squad to attack the flag.
