    Re: BF2 PR n00b questions

The first time you spawn and run into a helo you will likely die. Likely because you won't know to grab a pilots kit. Now, the tricks you pull in BF2 are not going to fly in PR.

The common helo is the Heuy and kiowa. Heuy is the easiest to handle and learn with.

-Helos have to warm up, if you jump in and try to take off you will roll the chopper, kill urself an those aroud you, cost your team a nice bit of tickets, and have to wait 20 minutes for that chopper to respawn.

-When you jump in you wait and listen to the sounds of the chopper, you will know when it ready to fly based on the consistancy of the main rotor.

-Build alititude so you have a buffer as you get the feel of the chopper.
-The reactions will change depending ont the type of helo some and quick and agile while others are beef and worth of the name bus/cow.

-If you attempt the single an attack helo, you will jump into the gunner seat, ur screen will go black, the game will tell you can't do this, you chopper will instantly start to fall, and if you switch back to the pilots seat you will have to wait for it to warm up before you can create vurtical thrust. which takes about a 1:30. It is not likely you will be high enough to free fall for that long.

-Spend a little time learning basic Helicopter moves, how they slow down when coming in at a certain speed, how to burn off some speed before coming in to hot.

They aren't impossible to fly but they take alot more practice and screwing up is alot bigger problem.

Practice long enough and you can pull off stunts. I was on TG the other night for a few minutes and as soon as I go off the deck the pilot rolled the helo into a full barrel roll less the 75 meters off the ground and pulled it off.

Man those helo's were fun! I think Scott remembers the times where my game would freeze for a second then come back while I was flying and we would be in some shit storm and I would pull out of it and fly great then it would happen again. Got to be pretty crazy!

fyi - I downloaded the PR mod yesterday. It's a school night, so I only got as far as the download. I hope to get it installed and burn some time on single player over the weekend (my free time: I work full time, study part time). Hope to get online in the next couple weeks.

Shoot... let's do a Friday Night Fights... Squad up with some regulars who know something (I've been AFK so long, I'll be a noob again myself) and we'll have some fun.

    Re: BF2 PR n00b questions

You guys keep it up, you just might inspire me to get on the server and start building FOB's or something. I can build them just about anywhere you can think of and some places you can't. I'm not the killing machine that some of these other guys are. I'm more of a strategist who can think of ways of making an entire squad disappear like Hudini then reappear somewhere else and cause a ton of issues for the enemy. My ways of playing usually drive new players to the brink of despair because they may go 20 minutes without engaging a target. Hell I've been known to tell my guys not to fire on lone players or squads, just because what we were doing was more important than killing that enemy soldier.

Figure it like this, if you kill someone, you have just alerted the enemy to your location, and you have to weigh the options of the outcomes to determine if it's worth it.

To give you an instance of how this works with me. I can recall a guy, who really enjoyed killing the enemy, he was one of 5 squad members with me on a map. We had left 3 guys behind at a flag location to defend it; while I took this guy with me and taught him how I play the game. We had to approach another flag and take it but the enemy had been ripping us a new one and getting behind us to keep us from advancing forward to the next objective. So, I came up with a plan that required us to take a 4-5 minute walk out of the way to get behind the enemy. We let 3, 4, 5 enemy soldiers slip right by us while we observed their route and relayed to our squad defending the outpost. After some time, the enemy was gone and we'd move. Then we'd have to rinse, wash, & repeat; because our squad mates were making them pay a heavy price for trying to take that flag.

I can remember 3 or 4 squads worth of guys going by us within a stones throw distance. We kept letting them by, so we could advance to the next position. After about 10 minutes we made it to the next location. Well, in this game you can't see when the enemy is on a flag and you are losing it out from under your nose. So, me and this other guy (who I can't remember the name of right now), finally made it onto the flag position. We started to drop the flag, then it would stall as the enemy that respawned in the area kept us from moving the flag capture meter. We would calmly wait as they moved out against our defended outpost attempting to retake and going like lambs to a slaughter. We would tell them from which area to expect the enemy and our guys would drop 'em.

At one point I had an enemy soldier almost step on me next to a rock, my comrade was itching to start shooting these guys and when he saw the guy almost step on me I could almost hear the panic in his voice over the mic. I told him to relax and the guy would move out. It's a good thing we never fired a weapon, I mean the guy was so close I could have knifed him without moving, 3 seconds later the rest of his squad came around the rock. Sure we could have shot them in the back, but why give our position away. After a little while, we had successfully taken the flag out from under their noses. This allowed the rest of our squad to move up to our position and help us hold it.

That is but one of the many scenarios I have treated myself and other players to on the server. It makes me sweat and my skin crawl to think of some of the shit we've pulled off, when I get a group of guys who believe in what I am trying to accomplish. There is nothing more satisfying to me than taking a group of guys on a journey on a map and having it all work out. While we had success, there were also times of utter and complete failure, but we always had a good time and never once did those guys ever complain that I can remember.

I do love the game, I needed time to recover from being burnt out from giving many days and hours to something that was just not working like it used too. If you guys want me to resurface just say the word. And for that, I mean, showing up on the server is all I need to hear.

I am interested in this...I got ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead and played with dancing corpse. It was a lot of fun. Is PR anything like ArmA II?

    Re: BF2 PR n00b questions

So I got PR loaded last weekend and gave it a spin in single player/coop/bot mode. Soviet Doom was correct - I died the first (couple) times I stepped into a helo ;-) (and into an APC) ... kept looking all over for "crewman and pilot kits" with no luck. Later on I read the the manual (which is pretty nice!), and I hope to give it another spin this weekend (key is - request special kits from the como rose).

Looking at the manual also explained some of the "delays" I was experiencing (ex: unable to shoot from jeep-MG initially). Curiously, my framerate was a bit lower than in BF2 (~20FPS, vs ~35FPS for BF2)... I'll try to explore some different settings to improve that. The graphics did look very nice/refreshing.

Can we setup/agree upon a time to get the server live? I'll try to be there :-D (bots suck) -- Fri evenings + weekends are best for me.

    best,
    donfede

Friday night throw downs have been the typical. With vaca this next week I should be in this friday. And bravo, I hope you enjoyed our little shoot out because this friday I'll be on the beast. No foot step will go unheard or pixel of movement not noticed.
