That's chump change. Really it would be like you tossing pennies in a fountain. If I can gather anything from my experience with corporations that size, I bet their celebration party after release was well over $10k.
Look how many "basic" things they have had to patch in the first month, and I think you will see it is less about money, and more about time. I am not a software developer, so I have no idea how many man hours it would take to either design a VoIP system for BF#, or port the BF2/2142 VoIP system to the FB2 engine. Regardless of the number I am sure the bosses decided that those hours could be better spent on something else. Do I personally agree with that? No. Does the majority of the people that play BF3 agree? I would bet so.

Eh, if they are too lazy to code it in the game I'm too lazy to buy any more of their multiplayer games/DLCs.

    Re: BF3 and VOIP...

I decided to break down and buy BF3 BECAUSE they said the would address it after launch.

I am disappointed but hardly surprised. Dice/EA both suck.

Sad part is I don't have Limited Edition. I wasn't worried about it because TGP wasn't going to host it and I don't play anywhere else. If we are hosting it I WILL go buy it so I have to give these idiots more of my money.

Yeah Im assuming they coded the VoIP to be specific for BF2/2142 and not universal that can be dropped into other games. Its a quick and cheap way to code but it really bites you in the long run. Sad thing is you think it would be easy to code regardless. Player presses button, play inputted sound from said player to all players on that team and display that player's name on screen. Thats obviously the cliffs of it but its not like it should have anything to do with gameplay mechanics are anything (unless they would want to muffle the transmissions when an explosion goes off by you or something).

    Re: BF3 and VOIP...

    Notice he mentioned "business perspective"

This is more insidious than being lazy.
Someones buddy / friend is getting a huge paycheck for the current voip solution which is based on:

Sonar - VoIP in the cloud

Which in turn is owned by ESN (creator of the Battlog Facebook experience), their slogan:
"We're ESN. We create web centric gaming experiences for online games and social entertainment."

They make other great hits you have probably (not) heard of like:
    ahaBINGO! and onGOLF

EA, pushing crapware and destroying good game studios since their creation.

Seems they moved the chat box to the upper left hand side of the screen. More room and reason to spam it with Team Speak

something like this would be nice.

"ATTENTION: WE USE TEAM SPEAK ON THIS SERVER! (Insert server info here)."

CAPLOCK IS A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE WAY TO STRESS IMPORTANT THINGS.

    Instead of,

"join us on team speak.(server info)."

Also, Spam it ever 20-30 seconds.

This should have been a feature in original release of the game. Instead, they take the "we'll get around to that eventually approach.
That's not too difficult to figure out... nobody is to make money from their games except them, and reserve slots allow someone ELSE to possibly profit from their work.

I *HATE* caps lock. It's useful in emphasizing things, but when it's in all caps... I will ignore it. Dates back to when lazy fucks used to type in all caps so they didn't need to type properly.

As for increasing the spam rate. No. No. No. If we do that, it'll cause everything else to scroll off faster effectively rendering the chat box useless. The chat box is for intrasquad/team communication (since we don't have a VOIP solution that offers this.) first and foremost.

The best thing you can do is use squad chat to talk to your squadmates that aren't in TS. The other day I was in a squad with Wile, Biscuit, and a random. Luckily for us the random was the SL. I asked him in squad chat to join TS and give orders, or drop from the squad and rejoin making one of us SL. While I would have preferred he joined TS he did drop and come back, and actually used the chat to try to communicate with us. If we all keep encouraging people to join TS more will come around.
