Not to say I told you so... but...

We´re keeping the voip as it is right now. By increasing to this level of functionality we would have to make the VOIP solution a part of the game installation, which we currently don’t want from a business perspective.

Re: BF3 and VOIP...
Not a surprise. I read this last night after seeing that it was not included in the patch. Thank god for TS. The only thing that we need now is reserved slots and it seems they are to lazy for that too. How can they expect server hosts to drop the money and run their game with no fucking reserve slots? This should have been a feature in original release of the game. Instead, they take the "we'll get around to that eventually approach.

Re: BF3 and VOIP...
Did anyone really expect them to work it in? I mean, VoIP is expensive and time consuming to perfect. Only the titanic game design companies really have the resources to get VoIP working correctly in their games and EA just doesn't have those kinds of resources...

I think you are partly right. I think it is more a matter of why spend time and money on a tool that only about 10% of your customers truly care about? The other 90% or so either don't care about VoIP, or are fine with the party system.*
The numbers of 10% and 90% are my assumptions, so sue me if you can prove me wrong.

Re: BF3 and VOIP...
If the small (5-10 developer) indie game company can get VoIP cleanly working (in game) on release of their budget $15 game, why can't a major blowout title do the same? Are you really going to argue it would even cost them $5k-$10k in terms of man hours to port over what they did in their previous games or what nearly every other major (and minor) studio has managed to do?
That's chump change. Really it would be like you tossing pennies in a fountain. If I can gather anything from my experience with corporations that size, I bet their celebration party after release was well over $10k.

But Quick... DICE already has working VOIP code... The code from BF2/2142 worked just fine (when configured correctly.) It's a matter of integrating the code with the game and they don't want to spend the time/effort to do so. As Civil said... they cater to the largest common denominator... and we're an exception to that.
