Can someone help learn me the targeting reticules and how they work?

Specifically:
The little I beam in the helicopters when equipping rockets
and
the sniper scopes

I understand the tank ones pretty well (I'm better with the T-90s reticule for some reason)
but like, I don't really understand how to do rangefinding with the other scopes

so, what's the little I-beam on the helicopter? I assumed that was just sort of 'where the rockets are gonna go', but I noticed it moves quite a bit

I just realized why my friend is such a good sniper (in real life)... because he can instantly figure out those kinds of numbers.
I'd be sitting there with a calculator going... wait, 1 goes into 5 what? and then get knifed from behind.
I guess I'll be firing a lot of 'warning shots' in this game...

its even better when you don't have to do all that math and know just from looking 'oh thats a 2.5 notch shot'

I was whiffing hard tonight... I wish there was an offline practice mode for this game so I could practice the rifles and flying

Lol a target practice mode even... I dispensed 4 clips to hit you on the tehran highway, my first try with a sniper rifle, had to really adjust for bullet drop, and the thing that I notice is bad companies sniper is more enjoyable, hell I even wish there was a bush suit unlock, if you are going sniper may as well go full re- err sniper... The bullets are so weak they seem to drop a ton. Or maybe the maps are that big? God I miss BC2 in some ways.

oh, that was you suppressing me from off screen for like 5 minutes?
I feel like it's not even consistent with bullet drop (which is probably just me making excuses...)

Also, the stock sniper rifles seem to be crap unless you nail a headshot. I was plinking people all night long from up there with no killshots. but I was getting tons of spot points

The defaults sniper carbines are not very good. And bullet drop is significant. And stopping power is very low unless a headshot happens. That has been my experience thus far. Add to that fact the recons have zero method of doing anything to armor since they lost c4/rdx and they are a pretty weak class combat wise. I'm hoping that the later rifles are better though.
