Tank question: guided shell vs regular shell

So, I noticed that the guided shell just replaces the Machine gun, not the regular shell.
how are the damage comparisons between the guided and regular shell?

Also, if you fire a guided shell, can you then switch to regular shells and fire again, or is the reload time combined between the two shells? (IE, can you just sort of rapid fire regular shells and guided shells over and over or does the reload time of one affect the other)

I believe the reload speed on the guided shell is a fair amount longer; however, you can fire the guided shell, and then switch to the AP shell in quick succession. In my experience they both do the same damage unless the guided shell uses a top-attack.

An upcoming patch is supposed to increase damage on side and rear attacks from guided shells.

I love it, I guide shell first then switch to rpg, then hop back in for the tanks main gun... Its like a volley of death! As powerful as usual shells, good range too!

I've been really dominant with the tank lately.
If I get at least 75% of my round in a tank, I finish in the top 5 consistently

I've heard (Haven't done it yet) That guided shells are soflam compatible...

Only time I have had any luck using the SOFLAM or Javelin was one time on Damavand when we were protecting our back flags the whole round. Other than that it seemed to suck every time I tried to use it.
