Using that mathematical logic...Your unit must be 80 inches long....

War - what I want to know is how you hav 20% with the m249, every time I get set up with that thing I get overexcited and just let the bullets fly
mercilessly... When you've got 200 rounds... Why let off the trigger??

Why shoot at something randomly when you can control the fire?

Some important tips:

Know how many bullets it takes to kill someone with each weapon you use. The more you practice this the better you get at supression/killing.

When you line up your sights make sure you shoot to kill. Aim for the chest and let the recoil hit their head.. Aim for the head immediately and you will miss more often than not. The logic behind this is that 1 bullet in the chest recoiled to a bullet in the head accounts for more than their life. Lets say a body shot is 30% and a head shot is 70+ .. All you need at that point is one chest shot and a head shot.. Good method here if you fire in 2-3 round bursts.. I use the 3.4x scope and I find it easy to get the 1 to the chest and 1 to the head.

When running around with a 20-30 round weapon make sure you dont shoot enemies unless you can kill them.. Spot them out and let your team take care of them. Range is a huge factor here. I see people all the time shooting red dots across the map only for them to get shot from somewhere they should have been focusing on......Look at it this way.. if you are going to shoot from across the map with a 30 round gun be prepared to encounter someone while your reloading... Murphy's law here..

And finally the last piece of advice I have is this...

Lead your targets by strafing more so than turning.. The vertical shift of your crosshairs will vary too much when using the mouse to turn.. So it's best to eliminate that risk.

With longer bursts the LMG's Recoil goes down.
