I think it's relevant to this discussion the first round of tech test invites went out tonight. Of course I didn't get one though... even though I spent the past month playing PS1 again.

Beta will begin either Monday or Tuesday next week depending on the tech test. It's Invite only right now so if you played PS1 or your a VIP you will most likely receive an invite that first day. PC Gamer codes will probably be invited next after that initial invite phase at least I would hope because anyone who did have a PC Gamer code had to buy it so I would like to think that puts some priority over other codes.

They are trying to be cute with words. Pay to play means its a free to play game that requires you to spend money just to actually do well in the game.

Pay to play means it is subscription based. Planetside 2 is not subscription based, thus it is not Pay to play.

You are thinking of the term Pay to win, which is the derogatory term used for Free to play games that give extreme advantages to paying players.
