Is my PC outmatched or is it lag?
I5 760
12gb ram
Ati 5870
Ssd main, game sits on the secondary drive.
750w psu
Asus mobo
Am i missing something? My game looks terrible in order to work, makes bf2 look like bf3... Or do i need to update my pc? I can play bf3 on med and there's no other game that makes her cry other than skyrim hd.... Help! Lag is very noticeable when looking through binoculars... I reduced view distance to 2k, video mem on default, 1920 Res, high details...

Turn down all the graphics to low and work up. or down.
Connection to the Server and the Servers connection bandwidth are crucial. Some servers try to undercut the suggested Bandwidth requirement for a smooth game. I disabled my TS overlay, cause it added huge tinted boxes to the screen and limited my FPS.Last edited by SmokenScion; 07-02-12 at 02:49 PM.

The game looks like trash with settings down. It's all blurry like you have terrible eyesight...(which I do, and it's bad enough irl) and if I had to play with low settings I'd just uninstall
The only time I get framerate drop with high settings is in populated servers while I'm in Cherno/ElektraLast edited by SpiritOfF1re; 07-02-12 at 03:00 PM.

Well, Arma 2 is a fairly demanding game. I'm running a GTX 560 and an i5 2500k, and playing the game on Medium only nets me 45-60 frames. Lower when looking over long distances or on a bad server. Binoculars typically ruin your frames because it turns the draw distance to infinite (ish) and that will really draw your frames down. Grass will destroy your frames as well (not sure why, specifically).
So, make sure your 3D resolution is set to your monitor's resolution. Make sure you have a legitimate copy of Arma 2. Arma Free WILL work, but textures are going to be shitty, just like all the british weapons and camoflauge in this game (as well as the default survivor skin, from the Private Military Company DLC)."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

I don't know anything about Intel CPU's. Is the i5 a single, dual or quad core processor? I know there is a target line you can change in one of the files to change the CPU count. I changed mine for my hex core and I saw a decent increase in performance.

The i5 is a quad-core with only four threads (one per core). The i7 models are quad-cores, but with hyperthreading, so they use 8 threads. There are some i7's that run 6 cores with hyperthreading, but they're expensive.
Good note about the multiple core command line, I'll look that up"In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

That CPU is fine for gaming. It is a quad core, and severely pounds any AMD, even those rated at higher Ghz.
That is more than enough memory.
SSD is fine.
750w is far more than enough to drive that setup (it is more than enough for two 5870's)
Hmm... 5870 is a bit dated, but still uber.
Can't tell ya... something is amiss in your system. That setup should run everything just fine...
