DayZ suggestion, whitelist?
Hey all,
As I am sure most admins are aware of, last night a hacker (".") came on and killed most on the server and eventually crashed it. More so then other games this is obviously a bad thing with the time people devote to gearing up.
My suggestion would be to whitelist the server, or a minimum give more regular players kick/ban capabilities.
The server is fun though and thanks for fixing the time thing!! There seems to be a good group playing, I don't want to see anyone jump servers.
Thanks!

The hacker incident was terrible for the people that he killed and all of the gear they lost...but the even bigger danger to our players was the hacked weapons he loaded in that a few people ended picking up. The random connects we are getting are nice because they add a certain aspect of mystery to the game. I'd hate to see that aspect of our server lost, but when our own players are put at risk because of hacked weapons and things, it might be for the best to whitelist the sever.

And just cause it is whitelisted, does not mean that will prevent a hacker from joining. Though as I said in the BMRF community if we want to take every measure to ensure that we have a cheat-free community we should also require players to give their SteamIDs so we can check them for VAC bans. Things like that will be another level of defense we have against players that are known to cheat and we can't trust. Like the whitelist, it won't catch all of them, but it will get rid of some.

I added his GUID to the ban list. We are in the works of getting a whitelist up - just hang tight guys and keep playing. I hope ya'll are somewhat enjoying it.

ditto! I feel an attachment to the server and I've been on every night. Before I just had a mentality of: Log in on a daytime server, go farm good loot spawn on a low pop server, go to another server when dark. Now this feels like home and I'm invested in this world. I have my secret places and I know when somebody's been sitting in my chair or eating my porridge

Re: DayZ suggestion, whitelist?
Hell, my nephews kept me up all night last night and I was on until 4-430 AM CST.
There was a server crash right after the midnight restart after everybody left, so I restarted it and hunted choppers all night.
I also browsed around and messed with some files - ended up fixing text chat.
For now, I'm going to hold off on VoIP (as we have TS3 currently). I will add our TS3 info in the motd (so newcomers can see it when we whitelist) and also in the BEC chat messages so current randoms know.
Let's get the server running properly and cfg'd right before we start messing with stuff we already have a temp fix for (via VoIP and TS3). I want to fix chopper loot spawns (remove L85 Thermal and replace it with the L85 Holo or ACOG - I will let yall vote on that) and also fix other coding/cfg/database shit (add TPG splash screen with rules, etc. like BMRF servers)
