in your face jinx, no more can you hold this over my head!
http://www.giantbomb.com/news/netfli...his-year/1744/
Sony and Netflix have announced plans to deliver Netflix's instant streaming service, which allows users to watch a gang of TV and movies over the Internet, to the PlayStation 3. The PS3 will gain support for the feature later this year, and in addition to a Netflix subscription, it will also require the use of disc-based software, which will launch the Netflix interface. Or, at least, it will "initially" require use of a disc, according to the released information, which makes it sound like the feature could be integrated directly into the PlayStation 3 at a later date.
Netflix is making the discs available for free to its members, and those wishing to get on the list for a disc as soon as they're available can do so now at www.netflix.com/ps3.
This levels the playing field a bit more between the PS3 and the Xbox 360, which has had built-in support for Netflix subscribers for quite awhile now. Of course, the key difference is that on the 360, you need a paid Xbox Live Gold account on top of your Netflix subscription, whereas it will be freely available on the PS3 to anyone with a PSN account and, you know, Internet access.

LOL.
Good one howlin.

I am interested to see how the interface will compare to the 360 netlfix interface.

Re: PS3 gets Netflix
I'm still pissed that PC streaming gets intentionally downgraded in quality. Even the highest quality stream available to a PC looks like crap.
I've never seen it streamed on any of the other non-PC "devices" but from what I understand it looks reasonably good (which is fucking simple to accomplish these days with a 2-3Mbps MPEG-4 stream, as I do on my website with wingsuit videos).
Can someone confirm that the 360 streaming looks reasonably good if you have adequate bandwidth? I.e. as good as Vimeo?
I can't wait!

Re: PS3 gets Netflix
From what I have seen the PC and the 360 are pretty much the same. But then you could be right since my 360 is using that stupid shitstain of a wireless thingy which sucks sweat from gutter monkey balls.
maybe the ps3 will work better in that regard since its wireless is definitely better than that stupid 360 thing; i guess would be enough reason for me to switch over and use it as the netflix player... but then my 360 will be sad and I will have little reason to even dust the stupid thing.

McStrange, I doubt it has anything to do with wireless vs wired. You can get plenty of bandwidth either way. I've run speedtests on my PS3 and lappy through a wireless router and they're just as good as my PC hardwired into the router, usually... for the most part. This test was done a long time ago, maybe I should do it again.
