Mario galaxy is beating OoT by a small .10%, but still from what I've seen of the game it isn't that good.

Re: Mario Galaxy 2 beat OoT?
One of the principal reasons why Galaxy 2 is considered better by critics (in terms of score comparison, at least) is because Galaxy provided innovation to a long-used formula. OoT was great, no doubts about that; but by bringing Zelda to 3D, it wasn't actually doing anything especially unique as 2D-to-3D had been done before (and would continue to happen, with things like the epic Metroid Prime). However, Galaxy not only made a great game in every area, but it also did some awesome stuff with gravity (which hadn't really been done before, at least not in a release that large). Nothing like longjumping around a whole planet, then going in a pipe and running around on the hollow inside of the same planet.
I guess it doesn't apply to Galaxy 2 quite as much since that's the one ahead of OoT and it's just following the first game's reworked gravity, but at least the game is great and really well-polished. It's harder than OoT as well, which lengthens the whole deal and makes it more satisfying to finish a world. I think what Galaxy 2 did to succeed is it took a system that everybody liked (Galaxy 1) and then expanded on it before everyone copied it and the successful system became the norm.

You might as well argue about the merits of automobiles vs pizza.
I will never understand the constant desire of people to take two very different things and rank one as "better" than the other. Just enjoy them both.

Re: Mario Galaxy 2 beat OoT?
I have Mario Galaxy 2, and I can say without any bullshit, that it is a better game than Ocarina of Time and Mario 64.
Now, this is coming from someone that has two gold versions of OoT, one unopened and one very much well played, and I've loved the game since the day it came out, and I still do, having played and beaten it multiple times.
However, I can say that Galaxy2 is not only one of the best games I have ever played, but quite possibly one of the finest creations of gaming ever put forth by anyone, ANYWHERE, at ANY time.
If you read this and take nothing else away from my words, do take away the fact that Mario Galaxy 2 is not just a 'rehash' of the engine from Galaxy 1, which I have played into the ground. Galaxy2 is not just a 'more of the same' type gaming experience.
No, it is much more than that.
The game took what was done before and has built upon it in a way that is so amazing, increasing with leaps and bounds on the concepts into so many new directions with so much stuff going on in every stage, that there are parts in the game where you play a SINGLE challenge that has more depth and design to it than some ENTIRE games developers come out with. I mean, sadly, there are developers out there making entire products that can't even compare to one crazy ass innovative idea that Mario Galaxy 2 does just for one stage...its absurd how much they did for this Mario game. I mean, they could take some of these ideas they have for stage obstacles and make an entire game, an entire SERIES out of them, and people would eat it up. Some of these things are really that crazy good.
In Galaxy2 they have redefined what a 3D space should be--I mean, they REALLY got that spherical perception down, so much so that there are parts in the game that damn near defy comprehension how they even made them, mixing 3D space with 2D game play in rotating cylindrical environments...it's freakin crazy dude, seriously man, it's hard to describe some parts it's so weird yet plays so well that the game is beyond sweet lol
You don't have to take my word for it, though. Go get the game and check it out. I have to say that I have been disillusioned by games for quite some time, very rarely seeing anything that makes me really appreciate video games, PC to console, but I will say that Galaxy2 is a game that has very much reminded me why I have been playing games for 25 years and still do--it is pure joy to play, in every aspect, from the wonderful music to the stunning beauty of the graphics that use art and design over raw resolution and texture size, to the flawlessness of the controls which are so good it makes me damn near weep how bad the control is in so many games out there.
Galaxy2 is a master piece of design and game play, so much so that it beats OoT with flying colors, regardless of apples to oranges comparison, and it also, yes, beats Mario 64, which I played so much my damn cartridge broke and wouldn't work right anymore. Galaxy2 deserves what they say about it as it is NOT a repackage of the same thing, but truly is a reinvention of how 3D spacial games should be perceived, just like Mario 64 set the standard that 3D environments could and should be to the way Half-Life changed how a 3D environment could be used to tell a story; so too does this game actually, and I mean this very seriously, reinvent the perception of how a 3D space should be encountered, which in and of itself would be enough, but it ALSO happens to have game play of a magnificence rarely seen in any gaming format, arcade to hand held to PC to console.
I just feel sorry for the haters and non-believers that will rule out the game as childish or 'just another Mario game,' and I feel even worse for those that are too young and haven't been playing games long enough to appreciate how extraordinary this one really has turned out. What is even worse is many young players won't understand because there isn't blood and guts and machine guns going off around photo-realistic grass and concrete textures =(
That will be their loss...I hope it doesn't become YOUR loss, though! Seriously, the game is that good.Last edited by Firiona Vie; 05-27-10 at 12:03 AM.
