Re: 360 or PS3?
I have both. I would get a PS3.
360 is a great system, and I do see reviews and side by side comparisons that show some games look a bit better on the 360, but its so minor I cant imagine that i would enjoy Assassins Creed more on the 360 that I do on the PS3. There have been one or two games that the ps3 graphics where far worse, Ghostbusters being the one I really remember, but that game sucked anyway so who cares that they did a shit job porting it.
The 3 main reasons I would recommend buying a PS3 over a 360:
1.> Exclusives. Playstation Exclusives are generally extremely good, and are only found on the PS3, you will never see Uncharted or Infamous on any ssytem but the PS3; 360 exclusives are generally pretty good as well, but eventually they end up on the PC, or on the ps3 outside of a couple of examples. Additionally I would say the ps3 exclusives are far better games than the 360, Halo bores me to death, and I never got into gears of war, but Uncharted 1/2, and Infamous where some of the best games ive played.
2.> Flaws. My PS3 is a rock. It starts, it works, it doesnt quit. The 360 is more like an egg. I have 2 360s in the house and between the two of them we have about 200% failure rate. One has been great and has not had any issues, but the other has stopped working 4 times. Microsoft replaced it 3 times for us but its out of warranty now and they can go to hell before i pay for them to send me another shitty refurb. I understand the new ones are suppose to be fairly solid but I would still have a very difficult time buying one.
3.> Free Internet. Pay Microsoft to use the internet? No thanks.

I only own the PS3, but play often on both.
I would say get a PS3 for the reasons above. My friends swear by their xboxes, but I just can not get over the fact that many of them have gone through a handful of consoles while my old brick PS3 is still running strong.
If your friends all of one console though, get that one. Playing online with strangers is generally a joke on either system.

Pretty much the same reasons already stated here for the PS3. I've had my original PS3 since I got it.(2006) Never have had any problems with either games or BluRay. I used to have a 360, but after sending it in 3 times because of issues, and still had problems occurring, I threw it in the trash.

I have owned both but played the PS3 more than the 360. I gave away the 360 Elite as it collected dust for about a year. On occasion I will fire up the PS3 and play some Uncharted 2. Otherwise, I mainly play the Wii for console games.

If they did that, it would severely cripple them I'd think since their interface is not as user friendly for one and why should you have to pay to get online when you're already paying for your internet? I sure as hell wouldn't do it.
That being said, I have neither currently. However I know for a fact that I'll be getting a PS3 for Christmas (Christmas/Graduation gift really, just have to wait since it is more a Christmas gift) since I wanted one. I have seen both consoles in action and played them at my friend's places. Most of them prefer the PS3 because of the reasons stated above: more exclusive games they enjoy and they don't have to pay to play online.
For me, there is really nothing special about the XBOX 360 that would ever make me want to get one. I've heard way too many horror stories and seen the issues my friends have had with their 360s. The biggest issues I've heard about the PS3 is that it overheats, but that is usually only if you have it in a poorly vented area and/or play the system for an extended period of time. Plus I believe the newer PS3 Slim or whatever they're calling it supposedly has fixed the issue. All my friends have the older models so I can't comment on their newer ones.
