Someone explain this game to me.
I've never been so baffled by a game in my life. I've always had a knack for FPS's and I can't remember the last time I didn't pick up a new FPS and proceed to nab MVP a handful of times within the first hour. Not CS:S though, and it's not that I haven't played plenty of it. I can't for the life of me figure this damn game out. Guns seem to shoot blanks for me, I can't figure out the recoil, I'll fire deags directly into people's heads and hit nothing but air.
I've played enough FPS's in my day to know my own abilities, I know I have good aim, I know I have good situational awareness, but there's some intangible aspect to CS:S that I can't put my finger on and it's killing me.
Please, I beg of you, someone explain this game to me.

I haven't spectated you much so I don't know if you already do this or not, but..
Make sure that if you have a rifle or sniper you stop to shoot. If you are moving and shooting, your accuracy goes way down.
Recoil in this game is not just your crosshair moving. While spraying, your bullets will go above the crosshair. Try holding down the mouse on an AK while looking at a wall and pay attention to where your bullets are going in relation to where your crosshair is. Using this, aim lower as the spray progresses, then hold level when the bullets stop going higher in relation to your crosshair. As an example, at medium range in mid spray, your crosshair should be around foot level to compensate for the recoil.
This game more than any other is about headshots. Keep your crosshair at head level while moving around and checking spots. We can do better.

Truth is this game takes more skill than any other fps I've ever played, I've been playing this game for almost 10 years and still feel I'm improving every year. I started playing bf3 a few months a go and after a 3 or 4 days of playing it I was finishing top 3 on my team about 80% of the time.

Because accuracy is such an important part to this game, you should familiarize yourself with the physical and virtual mechanics of finding heads quickly. I'd recommend spending a few minutes in a deathmatch server. Beware, a few minutes may turn into 30 minutes and carpal tunnel.
Words are only limited to the effable, while the indescribable is merely found within ourselves.

I broadcast gaming videos on Twitch TV and my finished videos are on YouTube! Recently I shoutcasted the Counter Strike Tournament at PAX Prime 2012!
