Re: Maps we don't need!
The problem is there are too many sucky people playing when there is a good map change to something we don't play. Yesterday we went to de_cpl_fire and as soon as people joined they typed RTV. Whats sad is that I'm pretty sure we had about 10 or so regs in the server that most likely look at this thread as well as contribute to it.
I know a "Call Out" thread was started to let people know who needs to stop being a bitch ass n00b, but I think we need something like that but that doesn't start a shit war. I mean if we have people posting here and saying one thing but acting differently on the server what do we expect to get out of this?

Re: Maps we don't need!
Hey,
So I respect your opinion. Although I have only been here for a couple of weeks TPG seems to be a very player and team oriented server. The fact is that if the players do not like the map they should have every right to change it, in a full TPG server, there needs to be 13 people RTVing the map. Seeing as there can only be 22 people in the server, this means that more than 50% of the players have to not like the map for it to be changed. I guess we are just going to have to deal with maps of popularity.

Re: Maps we don't need!
The problem is people-- most don't like new things or change. I haven't been on here that long either, but I am sure there are some examples of maps that were not so popular to begin with that are now commonly played and voted for. Fire, like Vin said, is a damn fine map, but a lot of people are unfamiliar with it and so are uncomfortable sitting through it. My prediction is that the more times we can get the server to go to a more obscure map, the less obscure it will become.
I didn't even know forge was on the map list, and I am constantly nominating maps. No, I don't nominate under-played maps all the time, because sometimes I like to sit back and play some familiar ones. But, I think if we can emphasize nominating under-played maps then the regs will abide and do it. This thread is a constructive one in my opinion.
I don't think it's a good idea to put in a set rotation, because then the rotation just becomes the overplayed maps, and it leaves less room for people to play what they want. Also, the spontaneity the rtv option leaves becomes removed and you are "stuck" in the server. Instead of having people hop in and rtv you would probably just have people (regs and non-regs) leave because they are sick of a map. With the rtv feature we have the ability to democratically decide what to play. With the recently played feature it automatically opts out overplayed maps. It ain't perfect, but it works.
Maybe an alternative is having a rotating list of maps you can nominate which would require constant attention to the nominating list.... i.e. more work for the high admins. Or like some stated, just draw out the "recently played" time to a few more maps. It would leave the voting system in place, but force people to seek out new maps and maybe find new favorites.Last edited by Affinity; 07-17-12 at 12:53 PM.

Re: Maps we don't need!
This is the kind of attitude and player that needs to be weeded out. From my understanding TPG wasn't founded on the "Lets let people run our servers the way they want" mentality. It was founded by people who wanted a particular game experience and style and wanted something more than D2/season/temple.
Edit:
For clarification; I don't believe people should be banned or kicked from TPG for only wanting to play popular maps. But how do you ecpect to build a large player base and keep those players interested in playing in the servers if we play no more than 5 maps per day?

How about this. Mod the server to kick and ban a person who RTVs for 1 or 2 minutes if the map doesn't get RTVd within 5 minutes (or if less than 50% of the required RTV votes are hit within 5 minutes, or some variation of this).
I think the above (or a modification of the above) is fair to both parties. Obviously if you RTV, you don't want to play the map - kicking or leaving frees up a spot for someone else. I don't play a lot of maps on the server such as piranesi, chateau, villa and some others. I don't like them so I rtv those maps. If it doesn't go through quickly, I disconnect. More often than not, I leave before or during the map change.

Re: Maps we don't need!
As an aside, I was in the server yesterday when we went to fire. Of course, half of the people in the server left. What was interesting is that the half that left was almost exclusively regs. I'm not calling anybody out, but a lot of regs call people pussies for not wanting to play different maps, and a lot of regs are apparently hypocrites.
