Ban Skiers (if it is possible and does make you go faster)

If bunny hopping is impossible, yet even looking like you are trying to bunny hop will get you banned...

and skiing IS possible (gaining speed because of a special jump/strafe combo down a hill) - shouldn't it logically be a bannable offense?

This just struck me while reading the other thread that is now locked.

Just want to say that I really don't intend to stir up trouble or look like a punk with this post. I just want to see what most people want to see - a pure gaming environment, and skiers who know tricks to go faster than normal hurt that.

thanks, as always - for everything the leaders here do both in public and perhaps more especially behind closed doors.

As far as I am concerned, you are using part of the physics engine that is in the game, so it shouldnt be a bannable offense.

It does make you go fast, but only down inclines, and it only helps you get a couple extra feet at the end of the incline, nothing major. And it does not carry over to the flat ground at the end of the incline. You might be able to get like one more jump in, but that is all and your momentum is not carried over.

I know most of this from personal experience on other servers that I played CSS on before TTP.

My opinion is not ban people because of this, since they are using the physics engine to part of tis potential.

If done right it doesn't just get you "A few extra feet" I've been able to get from the ramp in t spawn at piranessi all the way through sneaky DD in seconds, and you can get from b in D2 to the other side of ct spawn very quickly as well....

For me it's a question of consistency.

I support bans for quick-switching and bunnyhopping for the exploitive mindset they convey, therefore it would logically lead me to support the banning of people using this activity, "skiing", even MORE so because it DOES have an impact on the game.

Re: Ban Skiers (if it is possible and does make you go faster)

skiing is a consequence of the physics and motion system, and is limited such that it requires ramps/slopes to do it. Most maps have few, if any slopes, and thus this becomes a non-issue given it's lack of use.

As well, oni....the ramp in the T spawn goes up from teh boat. You can't ski up a ramp. You could ski down the hill into the double doors from the T side, as well as the open parts around A....but again....that doesn't give you much of an advantage.

skiing is not bunny hopping. It's jumping up and down on a ramp. It is also SPECIFICALLY listed in the rules as NOT an exploit.

When skiing is as prevalent and abusive as bunny hopping WAS or pistol switch was and still IS, we can address that. But I haven't seen a skier once, even once, beat me to a choke point or a critical junction in any map. And I'm fast as shit, front line point man 90% of the time.

I sense this has nothing to do with improving the rules, but instead sticking it to the system and trying to poke holes in the system. If that's what this is about, consultant (and I believe 100% that it is)......well......you know how we feel about disdain for authority.

I just feel that using the physics engine in the game to do this is not bannable. I myself use this in many fps games that i play, mostly console though and I just dont see the problem with it. Its not like you can continue it for that long anyways, once you hit flat ground its done.

And yes Oni, now that i think about i have gotten to those spots very quickly using this, but i know that your momentum is pretty much stopped when you hit flat ground. Its not like you are moving that fast all the time. Its just down the slope and if you hit your last one just right you will get the speed to move across those areas quickly.

Most people in the server dont know how to do this anyways, and those of us that do know how, dont do it often. I still stand by my opinion thats its part of the physics engine and shouldnt be bannable.

I'm not trying to poke holes in any system - it was a serious question.

Skiing works and has the ability to impact the game so I thought I would bring it up. Furthermore, since it is a sort of mouse-keyboard trick that not everybody knows about or has perfected (the same way Bunnyhopping started), I thought it would show proactivity to nip it in the bud and ban for it early before it became a more widespread problem. Honestly, that's all.

I have no disdain for anybody's authority at all.

Convincing you of that may be impossible, but that doesn't make it any less true.

    Respectfully,

    Consultant

again....if skiing becomes the rampant disease that pistl switching and bunny hopping became...then we will deal with it. For now, I have not observed it affect gameplay, whatsoever. But, I will further increase my scrutiny of such behavior, to see if it now does, if it makes you happy.

see guys...consultant WANTS me to look for cheaters and exploiters...wants me to be harder and more stringent.

    so blame it on consultant.

    Shit yeah.

A free-roaming bigdog in the CSS servers may get me more interested in that game again.

And from a purely selfish perspective, the banned forums were getting a little stale - this new crop have really spiced things up!

Keep up the good work, as usual.
