Quickswitching on 2/5/08

Quickswitching is illegal and enforced on this server and other server's property of TTP. And for those I have banned for a quickswitching tonight if you wish to state your case be cautious. I have copied the chat log and we do not take kind to ignorant responses.

oh yah i was getting fucking pissed cause all those random kiddies joined the server to awop and there were quickswitching and I was calling all of them out to the admin

Some people I guess are just stubborn and try to "prove their point" but just get banned for arguing... poor admins dealing with all those fags... I feel for you guys. Especially you bigdog, btw how many words a minute do u type

I try not to do it anymore but after over a year of quickswitching, I often find myself doing it without even noticing. It's a habit through and through and habits are hard to break. I do have a question though, doing it doesn't actually save any time at all, reloading and quickswitching take the same amount of time, so why is it looked down upon so harshly here, I've never in my life seen another server that bans for such a meaningless thing, although I'm rarely on another server other than ttp so i guess that isn't saying much.

If I'm not mistaken, Slasher, it's because quickswitching originally was used to skip the reload animation. Obviously this posed an unfair advantage, and while the bug was fixed, those trying to quickswitch are still embracing a form of cheating, whether it works or not.

With that being said, I do think that there ought to be (and for all I may know, there is) a certain amount of leniency when it comes to quickswitching/banning in the server. I've seen just a general warning from the admin on quickswitching and a specific call out to a certain player from the admin warning him about quickswitching. If the player continues to do so, he gets banned. Then his case goes to the banned forum, where he can state his case as he see fits.

*Pistol Switching is a means to avoid the reload animations of scoped rifles (the AWP and scout). Doing so PREVIOUSLY gave you a rate-of-fire increase, something that would not occur on other weapons (skipping your M4 reload animation simply means you have an unloaded M4 when you come back to it). This has since been patched, to the chagrin of reluctant and relic gamers used to the exploit for so long that it became "part of the game". It's not part of the game. It's an exploit. Do it repeatedly when firing your rifle in situations that do not warrant such behavior, and you will be banned.

Situations that DO warrant switching weapons when using a sniper rifle:
- You need to move quickly or change viewing directions quickly
- You are/anticipate being attacked by a close quarters enemy

Let us not forget that there are certain situations that warrant pressing Q to get to another weapon etc.

There are alot of admins who are just saying "No quickswitching" over server chat, without fully explaining why or for what reason, which leads to some people in the server being highly confused by this.

Please explain to them fully, because I know I got it the hard way, before anyone even previously let me know.

Noah Wood was quickswitching last night on the main server. I had to calmy tell him what quickswitching entails and that there is a policy against it here at TTP, for a greater good. Being calm about it and giving an easy explanation on it, helped him realize his error, and he quickly stopped.

Most people should know what it is, but every now and then a friendly reminder to some non-regs can help.
