Thread: What exactly is baiting???

baiting has been frown apon but what exactly is baiting
so far i know 2 forms of baiting. one of them is a call:
team fake a or b so that 4 players can get bomb down at the other site.
the other:
a player run into the open to get crosshairs drawn to the player so that the better shooting teammate can get a easy, and safe shot.
but what are the others?

baiting isn't the best word for it...but it's anytime you sell our your teammate.


Waiting back on a rush so your teammates can take the bulk of the damage, and you walk in a second later to pick up the enemy scraps.

ducking behind a door so your teammate draws fire while you pop in to flank fire.


basically, it's any situation where you let your teammate take damage without your assistance, when you could have been there.

Let's say its you and one other guy left on T side...map is dust 2. Its you 2 vs 3 ct's and the bomb is down in b site and the 3 ct's are all over it. So let's say you 2 say youre gonna rush in from double doors facing ct spawn.....you let your teammate run in first and he gets killed and while the cts are distracted by him you pop in at the last second hoping to get a kill or 2. You basically should push WITH your teammate and not AFTER him, letting him take the initial fall while you pray you can clean up after him.

That to me is baiting.

And yes, idunn loves being a habitual master baiter.

Selling out your teammates and baiting are two different things to me. This is my take:

Selling out is waiting in spawn on T side while your team plants bomb, then killing the rotators. Sure you get kills, but only because your team was successful without you. Or going with a teammate(s) into a firefight, seeing one die, and running away without taking a shot. Doing either of these is pretty weak and doesn't do anything positive that couldnt have been done better by pushing forward or taking a risk.

Baiting on the other hand is letting a nearby teammate take bullets, or get spotted, or pull a crosshair ect... with the immediate idea to shoot anyone who's looking at him. I call this trading kills. This is a clutch maneuver, and shouldn't reflect poorly on the person getting the kill at the expense of a teammate. Because at the end of the day, you're team is up. Yes your teammate died, but (ideally) you frag his killer, leaving an even player count buuuut giving you better map control. Baiting is absolutely essential in many situations where you need to get past a tight choke point. Sometimes you just have to stfu and take one for the team.

I give full permission for anyone who sees the opportunity to bait me out like a worm on a hook. Just make sure my death is worthwhile by returning the favour to the other team!

The problem is when you bait them without them knowing

Them knowing or not does not change how useful the baited kill might be. Sometimes if you are taking somewhere and have an awp behind you or something I might call "hey teammatename bait me out into site" or whatever, but that isnt what we're talking about yeah? Bait kills can lead the rest of the team to taking a site, holding a spot or defending an objective. Only the people who can't get a kill anyways seem to get mad about it.
