    As for Dust unlimited I played that the other day and honestly unless you guys are holding out on a 20vs20 server I don't know about its a really annoying map to be on. Too damn large for too few people imho.

    Anywho I guess you can say I'm a short timer not being a reservist or admin I count myself lucky to get in 2-3 maps(hell sometimes I get 5min) if that and it annoys me to go from D2 to Par back to D2 but at the same time. I think what needs to happen is a set rotation. As well as shortening the map time. There needs to be a cap on the wins (yes this is Mono's idea and i fully agree) and a time limit (15-20min base with an extending of 10 min) 45min on a map where one side is getting raped (which happens alot on Prodigy and Office and I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting a couple others) is along time of frustration and we can't always count on an admin being on to balance thing.

    Worst case RTV pops up in second round in the map and if it goes through well then the people there have spoken. Either way your not going to make everyone happy.

    I am definitely for playing maps that aren't normally played. My favorite map is Havana and never gets played. Maybe we could have like a small time frame or day, similar to snf where we play maps not normally played. Or we start spreading the word to everyone to vote for the maps we really want to play.

    I remember one time we actually got momentum and voted for havana. Some people did leave but we still had 8-8, so not bad. I think you will have those short comers who do leave, but sometimes what happens is people join after a few rounds that really want to play that map.

    I really feel we have enough strong repeat players on a nightly basis to just ban together during the voting process and request a map we really want to play. Use your mics.

    Here is my point, there are 37 maps on the maplist (these are maps you can nominate, and admins can put up votes for), but only 18 on the mapcycle (these are maps that pop up on the random votes). If we added some/all of the customs or less played maps to the mapcycle then the players would have the chance to vote them in without the admin having to put up the vote. If havana is an option, but D2 wins then the server gets what it wants. If a majority of the server wants to play D2, and you don't, then as someone said go prime another server with the map you want.

    Itsot what everyone wants, barely anyone looks at it. They just spam 1 or 2. Never really look at the choices .

    This happens, but not at much as you think. People scan the list and pick what they want, sometimes without putting much thought into it. I am even guilty of seeing a shitty list come up and just slam the dust2 button.


    I can understand your concern Junkii. And some options presented by Bunni seem really good. He makes a point though. You have in-and-out. and You got all-nighters. The bulk of your votes are coming from people who were not around an hour ago, and wont be around an hour from now. So you cycle through the same damn maps. Going to another server doesn't solve the problem either cause the same thing is happening there as well.

    I'd be partial to a mix of these options once Lone-star is in action.

    1) Each map is weighted based on popularity. The most popular having the lowest value.
    2) Previously played maps are excluded until a certain number of points have been reached in the cycle.

    As an example:
    A Cycle is 10 points.
    d2/pira = 1 point each (being most popular)
    inferno/nuke = 2
    Season/chat = 4
    temple = 7
    etc.


    Now. Lets start with dust2. Its being played. So a cycle of 9 additional points must be reached before it comes back up for vote.

    If two somewhat unpopular maps are played next.. lets say season(4), and temple(7) -- we have reached that criteria and d2 qualifies to show up for vote.

    A run of popular maps happens you might not see any of them for a good 2-4 more maps.

    A very unpopular map would essentially reset most of the cycles.

    What this means is an opportunity for additional maps to actually start coming up in the rotation more often, especially after your usual 4 maps show up. It forces some variety. which I assume most people could deal with. For this to really work though, it has to be tied in to all three servers. And the above example set would have to be tweaked to find a good balance.

    Also note, that each map played has it's own cycle. So when a map is played that map has to see so many points played out before it shows up again.

    A bit of work on Ewok's behalf? surely. Would end the issue with repetitious rotations? I think so.

    Our map list is unnecessarily big, considering TTP pretty much cycles through about 8 maps most the time.

    Feel free to disagree with my categorization but... it's based on TTP + Past experiences.

    Competition maps:
    Dust2, Piranesi,inferno: Voted for the most often as people are comfortable with these maps. Great basic strategy maps. Usually high paced action, well balanced. Very fitting competition for the server. Nothing wrong with them. Hence popular. Yes gets old when you play these three exclusively the entire night.

    Pressure Maps:
    Mill, port, Chateau : Played often enough to notice. Dont typically kill the server. Also great strategy/pace -- but less popularity due to some awkward layout and extreme pace strats.

    Strategy/Misdirection Maps:
    Season,Nuke,cbble: Seeing these hit the rotation more often than say 6 months ago. I bundle these together because they to me have a similar feel. They are not always slow, regs seem to handle them fairly well. Requires some balancing to keep the teams morale going.

    Execution Maps:
    Aztec, Office, Italy: Get voted for but too damn slow. These maps turn into camp fests more often than not. Players either love or hate these maps, and they tend to favor one side. Requires one side to work together really well to consistantly win.

    Under-played Maps:
    Train, Lost-Temple, Vertigo: I have no clue why these are not played more often. These are great maps that are unpopular for no reason. They fit right into TTP play

    Old maps:
    Militia, Assault, Dust, Prodigy: We have all played them, or versions there of. Just no one wants to play them anymore. I am never against the occasional trip through memory lane, but you wont see these very often on a full server.

    Odd-balls:
    tides, strike, contra, havana, compound: I have played all of these maps a ton. Back in like 1.3/1.6... rarely do I ever see them anymore

    And than there is tuscan.

    There are other maps, but these seem worth mentioning. These are all maps I see as play-worthy on TTP.
