Don't click the link if he PM's you, obviously. It was a URL disguised as a steam page. Like so...
http://steamcommunity_com_playerlist_etc_etc.com
(The underscores were in the actual URL - (that is just a false URL I made above - I wouldn't post the actual URL.....))
A page designed just like the steam community log-in, except your info goes to the perpetrator, not the steam database. It's called "phishing."
Also, for your own security, make sure that your email is verified through steam. To check, go to file> settings. Under the account tab, the second field is contact email. After this, it will say either verified or unverified. If it is verified, you are good. Any changes to the account must be made through your email. If somebody does get a hold of your password for steam, they can't change it without access to your email.
If it is unverified, the first option you can click on in that page is "Verify email address..." Click that, then click next on the popup message and it sends an email to the account listed. In the email is a link, click it and you are done. Confirm that your account is now verified through steam.

Like quick said, don't go running to your email immediately afterward. You're just giving them your email account too. Use a password vault. That way, you copy/paste your password and you don't have to worry about being keylogged.
