Re: Let's talk about RATES
Yes shade, if you have a multicore CPU, you should try enabling the Multicore Rendering option in game, and the Threaded Optimization in the nvidia control panel, and see if that helps as well. If not, then change it back to disabled/off. Thanks for pointing that out.
Also, here is a site that explains how everything works, if anyone is curious. http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_6.htmlLast edited by idunn; 07-17-10 at 01:58 AM.

Re: Let's talk about RATES
To each their own. But this topic is not about client settings for graphics. it is about RATES!
its simple. 66/66/30000. the other rates such as interp are a fine balance of preference. Funny you all look for perfection via others when the answer is within. LERP is relative, stop fucking fretting about it -- as we know this is what the whole thread is about. LERP = 20 to 100. find your preference
cl_interp (small numbers like .015 or above)
cl_interp_ratio (bigger number like 1 2 or 3)
The rest is 66/66/30000
end of story.

Re: Let's talk about RATES
right, the reason for this thread is for people lagging because of rate issues, but a lot of people have the correct rates, and still wondering why they are lagging. which is why the whole graphics deal came into the picture. since the update, a lot of users have experienced a lot of fps loss. so with the best vidoeo settings, and the correct rates, they kind of go hand in hand.

Re: Let's talk about RATES
Lol sorry, bit drunk last night. Those are good suggestions for the GPU settings, but it just seems silly to suggest graphics settings at all. These are very specific to hardware.
If my posts seem cruel or impatient I guess I'm just abit tired of all this. You don't need 300 fps to play well. And it is only this update thats made anyone care much about their performance. If I hear the word LERP in game one more time, I am going to cut somebody's nuts off.
Edit: Additionally, graphics settings are all a trade-off. Shadows are nice to have for corner peaking. Shaders is just eye candy. Texture/Model detail can improve visual acuity / contrast of players. Filtering / AA will also increase acuity at a distance, and distort the image less. Color correction seems pointless as very few of the maps are much more than grungy sand walls and water. Reflections dont have much application in game (cept maybe chateau/aztec).
If your graphics card doesnt have 512 MB bump details down. Lower your resolution if you have to as well.
If you simply bump everything to the worst possible settings and step things up from there it is easy to see whether or not its time to throw your computer into the trash can.Last edited by GReYVee; 07-17-10 at 09:11 AM.

Re: Let's talk about RATES
fps goes hand in hand with choke so graphics settings clearly impact rate settings.
With a 66 updaterate/cmdrate, anytime you drop below 66 frames per second, you get choke. Many rigs will run around 100-200 fps but drop in the 50's in a huge firefight. And once you drop under that 66 rate setting, you'll start lagging because your machine can't handle what's being sent and requested of it.
max fps doesn't really matter, but min fps sure does which is why optimizing your settings like idunn posted is good stuff.

Re: Let's talk about RATES
I did notice when i enabled the multicore rendering, my frames dropped a good amount. i ran the visual stress test with it on, and averaged about 200fps, and with it disabled i was at 288fps. idk how accurate the visual stress test is, but that is the outcome.

Re: Let's talk about RATES
one other setting i haven't seen mentioned but supposedly helps is
fps_max
this helps keep your fps more stable instead of bouncing around so much. i have mine set at 101. i think that pretty much anything higher than about 60 is good. i'm not sure though so make it 100 just to be safe. anything over 100 isn't going to do much as far as i know.-shade
