Ranks/Stats/KDR/Achievements and why the fuck does anyone care about them here?
Title pretty much says it all, and I can't say I have never been guilty of any of this myself. But, why do we even have any of this stuff enabled on the servers? Why are there ranks? The only thing I could see being important maybe, is general stats to possibly track over time if someone has a rediculous KDR that could be associated with hacking... outside of that, what place do any of these things have at TeamPlayerGaming? I can say for a fact that it does hinder teamplay. Perfect example is when I hear someone turn on their night vision on dust2 at the beginning of the round. Thats money thats spent that could be used for a kit, armor, better weapon but instead was used to get the nightvision achievement. It is also hard to deny the non-teamplay mindset on a map that is currently 10-0 and the admin swaps for balance and the top player who gets swapped drops after the first round goes to shit. I am sorry your 5:1 KDR is now going to take a hit down to 2:1. If you get swapped suck it up and help the team out for atleast 5 rounds. I would just like to know, if we have the ability to get rid of some of this, why not?

People care because being good means your team winning and maintaing a decent kdr.
Plus contrary to popular belief "dying for theteam" is a bad stratagy. We just use it alot because its simpler than the alternatives.

I am not advocating blindly charging the machine gun nest. What I am saying is there is nothing to gain by having these stats in a purist teamplay environment. If we dropped persistant KDR, ranks, achievements I am certain this would not have an adverse change in teamplay, and I would argue and predict that it would increase teamplay and even eliminate some of the more annoying issues I stated above and KDR centric players. I see absolutely no valid reason for achievements. But, having KDR for a map is absolutely essential, and I should have mentioned that in the original post. KDR during a single match allows the 'top 3 outside bombsite A everyone else rush B' calls. Also, it does exactly what you said Bunni, and will allow a player to determine their effectiveness from round to round. But, ranks and peristant KDR has little to no value for a teamplayer. You might be able to convince me that map and weapon persistant stats have value in that you can track what weapons in what situation and map you are most effective and efficient with. But, even in that case, what CS player doesn't know what weapons they are good with? Mad uses the p90 and rushing style with great success, Manno 2 always uses the M4, Hitch can be insanely effective with the pump shotty. Most of us do not need persistant stats to have a solid understanding of what works for us.

I think people should be able to buy whatever they want regardless of achievements or rank or whatever. It may be in their best interest to buy a kit or whatever, but they should be able to buy any dumb ass thing they want.

I also wanted to say that I don't post this with any disrespect to how things are run around here, and quite the contrary I feel very comfortable being able to voice my opinion. So please, to those that make this community what it is (incredible), I have nothing but respect for you guys. I just wanted to voice my opinion. Thanks!

Same could be said of the awp, teamplay>awp. People die every round but for as some reason they complain when they are killed buy an awp but not when they get one shotted by other weapons.
Its (the awp vote and achievments, ranks, ans stats) are there for the,preferences of,the,players.
And,thise who are interested in the long run of things, not just the moment.

I agree, I may think the ump is a useless waste of money, but it may not be the case for someone else. I just used nightvision as an example of an achievement that could have an adverse effect. Who knows, maybe its useful somewhere, not at all the point I am trying to make in this post. I think achievements in general lend themselves to take away from general teamplay. I can't see any arguement for keeping them, other than the fun factor they bring (Valve did add them for a reason), and something being fun is a good enough reason to do anything. But, for me, winning using a good strategy with the highest efficiency is fun. I just think achievements were more designed for a pub atmosphere, and are fun in that situation. I come here for the strategy and teamplay that is non-existant in 99% of the CS world, and my opinion is that achievements and ranks do not fit into that. If we were to be ranked on anything persistant, it should be purely W/L ratio and K/D should only be considered after W/L, defuse and bomb plants.

Yeah, after some thought I realized I am probably in the minority on this. But, hell, someone out there might agree with me. Yes I used to be very guilty of that, I used to bitch a lot about AWPs. I don't so much anymore. I will throw out a "Up 10-0 and using the AWP, classy." but that usually occurs after I was the one killed by it. Plus you guys offer an AWP-free server for those of us who want to get away from it. I would also guess my votes on the AWP/AUTO disabled has been probably very close to 50/50. But, I am not advocating banning any in game items. I am just an advocate for removing achievements and making KDR something that is less important to the individual.
