    help

So recently my game has been laggin but i dont know why, my ping is around 50 and fps is around 150 but then randomly it drops to 30 for a few seconds but when the fps is at 150 it is still lagging. Does anyone know what could be doing this?

    thanks

    Re: help

It could be your rates. Try
    rate 25000
    cl_updaterate 101
    cl_cmdrate 101
    That might help.

    Re: help

    Standard is (I believe):

    rate 30000
    cl_updaterate 66
    cl_cmdrate 66

Play with these, generally increase the rate if your connection is strong, or lower it if it is weak. I believe server output is capped around 66, so the cl_ commands shouldn't be a big issue unless they are set lower than 66.
    Why no rank?

Because that isn't why or how I play.

Also, make sure you close any programs running in the background that you don't need. A good way to prevent this is click on your start menu, in the text box, type "msconfig" and it should bring up a window. Click the "startup" tab, and deselect every program you do not need to start when windows boots up(which should basically be everything). Your computer will load up faster, and you will have less programs running that you do not need. ie: windows media player, internet explorer, msn, pandora, things of those nature.

    Re: help

download CCleaner and run it, it gets rid of much the annoying clutter you pick up web browsing(including alot of tracking cookies and any malware in your temp internet files), as well as windows temp files and clears your recycle bin. Defrag your hard-drive. Those are usually 2 of the easiest ways to reduce in game lag. If you are running through a router make sure that the CS:S/steam ports are opened as well.

Be warned: if you are one of those people that makes your webbrowser remembers all your pw's so that you don't have to, I'd read carefully the selections in CCleaner so that you don't erase those.

Welcome to TPG and the forums donatello.

I really don't have any suggestions other than what everyone has said. What type of GPU do you have and how old is it? Are you on a shared internet connection where someone could be using up bandwidth?
