    Should I get CS?

EDIT: I have been thinking of this for a while now and I figured I would throw it out to you guys and get an answer.

I have a couple of questions I would like to have answered before you answer my overal, should I get CS:S

    A. Where can I get it?, How much is it? If I download it, where do I get it from, how long does it take to download it? Again cost for downloading.

    B. I know that the game requires a STEAM account, and various other things. What do I NEED TO KNOW in regardes to that.

    C. Since Steam is an engine I believe, that comes with several games, correct me if I am wrong, what games does it offer, and can I possibly get DOD:S in the same package for a cheaper/same/more expensive price.

    D. How is it worth my time VS the Battlefield series. As many in the {BD} clan know I play BF 2142 and BF2. I entered the community through BF2 and then expanded to 2142. What are pros and cons to each. (BF vs CS)

Try to sell it to me boys, I need to be sold on it no doubt 100% If I do not like some of the answers I get then oh well. But PLEASE try to convince me as to why I should also pick up this game.
    Code:

    Should I get CS?

    A. Where can I get it?, How much is it? If I download it, where do I get it from, how long does it take to download it? Again cost for downloading.

You can purchase and download CS:S through Steam. As of right now, it can be purchased alone for $19.95. Download will take roughly an hour with a decent connection.

    B. I know that the game requires a STEAM account, and various other things. What do I NEED TO KNOW in regardes to that.

Download Steam free of charge from www.steampowered.com. Steam accounts are free.

    C. Since Steam is an engine I believe, that comes with several games, correct me if I am wrong, what games does it offer, and can I possibly get DOD:S in the same package for a cheaper/same/more expensive price.

Steam itself is a game distribution platform to help manage many games. Half-Life 2 is the engine it is on.

For a package you can get the Source Premier Pack which includes: Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Half-Life Deathmatch: Source, Half-Life 2: Episode One for $59.95.

If you are not interested in the other Half-Life games, and would like to get both Day of Defeat: Source and Counter-Strike: Source alone -- it would be your best bet to purchase them separately at $19.95 each.

    D. How is it worth my time VS the Battlefield series. As many in the {BD} clan know I play BF 2142 and BF2. I entered the community through BF2 and then expanded to 2142. What are pros and cons to each. (BF vs CS)

Counter-Strike is a run-n-gun play style. Smaller maps -- focused on bombsites, hostages, etc. Fun maps, and pretty easy to learn. It is very easy to get addicted to, and sure does require teamwork to win the rounds successfully.

Over all, the game is well worth it for the price. You can't go wrong. Hell, you don't even have to leave your seat to purchase it, and the download will not take long at all. Steam is VERY user-friendly.

    Taken from Steampowered:

    • Fast access to games: The full Steam library and all future Steam releases are at your fingertips. After you've purchased a game, download it immediately and start playing.
    • Automatic game updates: Hunting for patches and downloading from unorganized web sites is so twentieth-century. On Steam, your games stay up-to-date by themselves. No hassles.
    • Instant-messaging that works in-game: With Steam's "Friends" service, you can talk to your friends while you play. You can also see when they're playing games and easily join the same servers together.
    • Easy browsing of multiplayer game servers: Steam's integrated server browser makes it easy to navigate thousands of Internet game servers.
    • Steam-only special offers: From pre-release discounts to free-play weekends, Steam delivers what gamers value most.
    • Play your games on any PC: Once you have a Steam account, you can sign in from any PC and access your games. Your games are associated with your account, not your computer.

Sorry for the long response, just wanted to give you a general idea so you don't have to do much research. Looking forward to playing with you if you do decide to get it. If you have any questions, be sure to ask.

BF2 has vehicles and kits, CS doesn't, it's all custom choice.

    Should I get CS?

BF vs. CS -- two complete different games. In CS, there are no multiple spawn points as there are in Battlefield, only one. Once you die in a round, you will not spawn back until the current round is over, which is only about 2 minutes or less. Usually the rounds do not last more than 3 minutes or so.

The better you do, complete your objectives, kill the enemy, you will gain more money to purchase better weapons. There are no kits as digitalmaverick said; you can use your setup of choice. Sounds like a lot of work, but it is a hell of a lot easier than Battlefield. Custom maps are also a huge hit in the CS community, there are literally thousands of them.

It is a lot different from Battlefield; nevertheless it is a great game.

This is what I found from Best Buy $29.99

Is this just a case of apples and oranges or can these two be genuinly compared?

I used to play nothing but BF2, but I've come to prefer CS:S. I'm not saying it's a BETTER game, but I love that playing a round doesn't take me an hour to finish. You can jump on for a few rounds and take off in a matter of a few minutes. Also it loads MUCH MUCH quicker. And the Steam browser is a million times better than the crappy BF2/BF2142 ingame browser. God I hate that thing. I bought the Half-Life 2 Collectors Edition, which had CS:S as a bonus. Don't put to much thought into it. Just get it and join the dark side. You won't regret it. Don't get me wrong. I love BF2 when I have a ton of time to kill, but time is something that's hard to come by for me, thus for me CS just works out more.

I used to love the battlefield series; 1942, vietnam, and I played BF2 for a while. Sold em all to get CSS. The BF series (and DoD for that matter) pale in comparison to CSS.
