    Re: AWP tips

    good tips!

i never saw that much value in practicing quick scoping with muscle memory and all that. i much prefer what i call "swing-clicking". if you're not scoped directly on target, don't bother with the time it takes/minutiae of aiming in the traditional sense (like with an ak/m4 you might step, aim, click), or quick-scoping in which you aim uncsoped, scope and fire (basically no-scoping until the last second).

instead just swing the scoped cursor toward the target and time your click. you'll be amazed at how many kills you score because of the hitbox and lag issues associated with source, and you'll always be faster than someone aiming back at you with a rifle because you're not stepping, aiming and clicking. you're just "swing-clicking". it makes even crappy awpers look like they have great aim, and the best look amazing. it only takes a bit of timing to get good at this and you'll feel like an ace. eventually, this will become quick-scoping as you get better at facing your opponents.

quickswitch to use the cursor of your pistol to no-scope better. hop around and use the awp like a shotgun when doing this. try practicing on a private server with bots. lots of fun.

it may seem counter-intuitive, but try to keep your cursor on the chokepoint during a rush. don't chase the first guy or two if you missed, unless they come right at you and you don't have distance to give. leave them for your teamates. keep thinning the herd, and you'll rack up the kills.

as a T (or CT), flash a spot you know a CT is peaking/camping, line up, wait for a peak. flash another spot, line up, wait for a peak. throw a grenade, do the same thing. the act of backing an opponent off a peak spot, and waiting for them to return is a great way to "work" a site or choke, and a bit of an art. if they don't return, call in the horde, or throw another flash/nade and move to the next logical point. you can actively push CT's back this way, and it's a great way be an effective teamate vs. a stat-whore.

finally, imo the best thing an awper can do to stay alive is to limit your exposure. try to focus on spots which double as the only spot you can be shot from. if you can be easily shot from one spot while focusing on another, you're probably in a bad spot. this doesn't mean you have to hide in dark corners and only peak small spots, it means that if you're trying to pick short A, be sure you can't be shot/flanked from double doors or lower b tuns (obvious i know, but you'd be surprised). this is why why most awpers typically work long a, b tuns or pick mid. the short A's of the world are deathtraps. leave that for the gang-bangers.

Good expansion on location selection. While this is true for nearly every gun, it's extra important when awping because you are sometimes scoped in and don't have the same flexibility and peripheral vision. You always need to control the angles so you can only be shot from one direction at a time. This can often be done in the middle of a room with a crate (assuming they don't spam you through these objects). Just always cut the angles off so you're working one side.

Another thing that's good for all around purposes, but also nice for an awp is the distance/angle issue.

Basically, if you and an opponent are both coming around a corner (it can be the same corner or a Z scenario), whoever has more distance between them and the wall immediately separating them is going to see the other guy first. So hug the wall farthest away from the corner apex. Great for a rifle when creeping and a guy is camping real tight on the corner.

So when using the awp and doing this, it would be the case where you are scoped in waiting for the enemy to peak/pop.

    Re: AWP tips

I don't have many good videos, but I found this one hidden on my YouTube that might help explain a few things. Sorry for shitty quality. This was a scrim with two of my old teams several years ago.

YouTube - ‪Rad CS Scrim Highlights .Np vs AW‬‏

You can see in this video some basic quick switching, pre-aiming unscoped and then scoping in and adjusting for the kill, different peaks on the same target (changed distance from wall to avoid getting picked by another awp), using the trains and electrical box as cover for protection while otherwise out in the open, and how to kill an enemy up close with awp like shotty at the end.

It's not fancy. It's not amazing, but at least it's something to put a picture to what we're talking about. Hope it helps. Best bet is just to watch some of the good awp players on the server when you're dead in 1st person and figure what they do different than you.
