Sound settings
Well ive decided after breaking my last headset from slamming it on my desk (wasn't a good day), that I will buying a g35 headset or possibly a g930 by logitech. There both 7.1 virtual surround so Im wondering what's your in-game settings. Like headphones or 7.1 speakers etc.
Thanks!

Re: Sound settings
I use the headphone option. 2 speakers can't replicate 7.1 channels, maybe there is software that comes with them that plays with the sound(its still 2 speakers though). With a 7.1 set-up you could hear someone behind you through the speaker thats behind you. I use a pair of Sony MDR-7506's, they don't manipulate the sound so you hear it the way its supposed to be heard.
Companies that manufacture gaming headphones just use catch lines like "Hear bullets rip past your head"/"You hear your enemy before they hear you" and so on, what they've claimed to have done is not true, you can't turn the sound of footsteps up or any other particular sound, you can however play with frequecies (generaly from 20Hz-20Khz) where certain sounds are more prominent, in doing so you've also affected the other sound occupying that frequency. Lately I've seen a lot of headphones come with software, I'm guessing it manipulates the sound but I can't speak first hand.

Re: Sound settings
i have the Plantronics GameCom 777 It has a switch to put it in or take it out of Virtual 7.1 surround sound. I have turned it on a couple of times but don't like the way it sounds. To me it echo's.
The headset itself is very comfortable and I can wear it with glasses for long periods of time with out any discomfort.

I use the Turtle Beach Earforce X 11's. I also play Xbox so that is the main reason i got them. they work with xbox and computers. I use headset settings but i;ve never really tried anything else? does it really make that much of a difference? Also they are very comfy, i wear them all day with no problem.

I use some Grado headphones. I have the 225, I think. Open back headphones with a soundstage that makes it feel as if I am at a live show close to the stage.
I pair that up with the Asus Xonar Essence soundcard. It has a pretty nice headphone amp built in. It allows you to adjust the gain so it can power pretty much any headphone at full sound.
It also has a feature to emulate 5.1 and 7.1 on headphones. You can change the size of the room it emulates as well as move the virtual speakers to any position. Tuning it that way offers a pretty damn good imitation of surround sound.
It also has a mode where you can turn off every software enhancement if you want just the raw sound.

Fatality MKII's by Creative...only complaint is I do not like the "cup" effect. I will go back to an open ear design on my next set.
If you could care a less about sounds out of game, then these are quite comfortable and work well.
