He was manually added, as per the rules....then the ban was removed, since his Steam page was in the clear.

The way VAC works I believe is that it only VACs you for the engine that you were banned in, so if say you were banned for MW2 you could still play source games(Correct me if I'm wrong)

Yes, it bans based on engine...which is silly imo.

I always wonder about previous accounts when I see someone come in and go 28-3 but they are getting achievements, the basic easy achievements, for the first time.

The problem with this situation is proof, beyond matching an IP address to a VACed account there is no way to know for sure that this person is VAC banned, they may have lost their account credentials, or had an account stolen. This happened to Ethereal in DoD so when he got his new account we knew why he was raping the server and getting achievements.

take me for example on this one.

I play css once in a blue moon.

I have played cs seriously since 1.4 up until a few years ago.

one of my "once in a blue moon" day comes up and ill jump on the servers. 1/8 of those times i will wreck face, and since i hardly play since achievements came out, ill rack up a bunch of basic achievements.

same goes for other games where i rarely play but i have played in the past before achievements came out.

to bad you can't compile all the Bans across all the games ever made with ban Databases. I bet you could Mine the shit outta that, and find quite a few patterns and similarities.

I'd settle for steam keeping a public database with all vacbans from steam.
