Aimbot, how do you determine if someone is using it?

I was just browsing the forum/stats and found grizzly banned for aimbot. I remembered him from about a month ago and always thought he was good.

So, the question is, how does one distinguish if someone is good or aimboting, besides the obvious headshots spree?

The easiest way to tell, and what happened with grizzly, is when they have other accounts that are VAC banned.

In source, it's also easier since you can spec. Watch for jerky camera movements with the cross hairs jumping from target to target. Also, keep in mind that modern hacks can target more than just heads.

TBH, the more common hack that you need to watch out for is walling. This is where the hacker can see his enemies through walls. It's a lot harder to spot.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

takes lots of practice and hours upon hours of watching demos with impacts on, wireframe, slow time, comparing stats etc to see. Its a lot more work than you would think.

Re: Aimbot, how do you determine if someone is using it?

There are alot of tells, and there are more than one type of aimbot. The most obvious are of course the morons that are upside down spinning around with a para destroying everyone that is visible. Others are much harder to detect - some go less for the head and aim to the chest instead. Some aimbots won't snap to head/chest unless the crosshair is already close to them. These ones, particularly when used by players that are already good players without hacks(and who toggles it on/off), are very very hard to detect(that goes for the chest aimbots and head aimbots). There are also aimbots that act more like an anti-recoil. Alot of times you can see that all of their shots hit within a very small window. Again, hard to detect but if you know what the recoil patterns are it becomes much easier to spot.

There used to be a CEVO-P/CAL-I player named IMK that was VERY good, even on LAN, but just seemed to have some completely nutty streaks while playing online. Everybody was sure for several seasons that he was using an aimbot but it was incredibly hard to detect because he was a very good player without it. CEVO and CAL never did catch him, but eventually VAC did. Players like that are almost impossible to detect if they are actively trying to hide it.

Again, alot of those are hard to detect, especially on a server loaded with skilled players like TPG is, or in leagues that have even more skilled players. Things to look for to catch such people is massive inconsistency, different playstyles when known admins are in the server etc. Alot of times togglers become "stupid" when someone goes spec, especially if they suspect that person is an admin. One of the biggest tells, and a big reason for why I am a proponent of spray patterns, is when a players bullets do NOT follow the spray pattern. There was a guy that got banned the other day on Port(okay it's probably been longer than that since I've barely played lately) that literally just spray a horizontal line across lower and every bullet hit flat. -------------------------------------
is pretty much what his spray looked like. It also snapped to heads when it got near them.

Those are just some of the things I have observed in the 10 or so years I've been playing CS. There are probably alot of tells that I'm not thinking of and alot of aimbot types I'm not aware of.

That just baffles me. If you are that good, why cheat? But I guess that's similar to EPO or steroids for other sports.

    "People are morons" - House

Soft aimbot, anti recoil hack and wall hacks are what I feel are mostly used now.
Australian-I feel for ya bro gaming on a piece of shit you should be twice as good at any game you play. Thats really really a scary thought. Part of me does not want you to get a new rig.

George Carlin said it LONG before house did. I do agree though.

As stated above there is no easy answer to this question, source games are easier, IMHO, than others. Usually if it is not obvious it requires a long spec of the player, simply because they have a great K/D it does not mean they are hacking. However when you see a player following people behind walls, which can be very subtle, you get the idea. For the most part it takes a few minutes spec-ing the guy to figure it out, if it is not obvious to Blind Freddy that they are hacking.
