Thread: My letter to Gabe Newell

Dear Mr. Newell:
My name is Daniel "Guyver" Moses. I'm writing you this letter to ask that Valve release the fixed stock maps for Day of Defeat Source. It's my understanding that Valve does have these fixed maps, as they were fixed by Wes "FuzzDad" Shull and sent to Valve. I have played and loved the Day of Defeat franchise since 2002. I have played with FuzzDad and the developers of the game many, many, times over the years. I'm also a member of the CAMP mapping team, which helped create and beta test custom maps for the game, which Valve endorsed and supported.


I know that the game doesn't get much attention, and I also understand why. The WWII FPS genre has indeed fallen out of favor in recent years. However, there are still many of us who enjoy the game immensely. I have bought several copies of Day of Defeat Source, and given them away in contests within our community to help garner more interest in the game. I'm not asking for a huge update and massive fixes across the board, and I also understand that bandwidth cost money. I'm just asking that Valve release what they already have. If I'm incorrect, and Valve does have these fixed maps, then feel free to correct me. I just would like to see some attention given to this great franchise. I look forward to your reply, and I thank you for your time.

I appreciate you taking the time to write me about your concerns for Day of Defeat: Source. You must be pretty awesome at that game considering the time and dedication you have given. But looking at your overall statistics, I must say that you don't appear to be very good. I mean, you only use support class, and your K is laughable at best. Due to budget cuts and layoffs at Valve, the Day of Defeat: Source development team has downsized to, well, one guy named Joe who has a primary focus on designing hats for TF2. The rest of the team is busy making L4D3, which will be exactly like L4D2, but with some different undead characters and some other guns. So basically, we are making the same old crap we always have been, while having some spare time to create some legendary single player gams, like Portal 2.

That being said, Daniel, or "Guyver', we at Valve just don't have the time to load the files in question. After all, anything coming from some guy named "Fuzzdad" should be checked once, twice, and thrice. We simply don't have the time or the desire. To soothe your pain, I give you the gift of CS:GO. Sure, lots of people say that CS is a game of leetspeaking gamer jerks that don't care about graphics and advancement in physics technology, lighting effects, sound, and overall realism, but I disagree. I think they are a market of individuals that we can repackage the same exact game (again, lol) and they will pay money for it.

Well I gotta get going, Daniel. My Battlefield 3 squad is waiting for me, and I am the medic. There is a pretty big invasion going on at the Hilltop near the Caspian Border. I appreciate you writing me, and I appreciate the money you have spent through Steam. Keep it coming! I assure you that you will be happy with the mediocre titles we have planned in 2012. Let me know if you would like to squad up one day. I will gladly send you my Origin/BF3 soldier information. Keep fragging!
