RE: dod update coming?
the news title says Counter-strike source but im betting that somewhere in the article it says something about DoD too, otherwise you wouldnt have post this.
you know what would be a great update? new classes.
but thats just a dream.
i remember in the original DOD the germans had a class with the paratrooper weapon and it was so cool. valve removed it in DOD:S cause frankly, they are fucking lazy.
they are also missing the greasegun.. THE ENTIRE BRITISH CLASSES, the germans had yet another MG other than the '42 which worked differently, sort've like the 30 cal.
also the models were actually different, the sniper had a cap instead of a helmet, and had winter clothing. now the best variation we get are the rocket packs on the rocket class. man valve IS fucking lazy. and to top it off, they go and change the weapon damage values. i'll tell you something, you'll never see ANYONE in the original DOD surviving a k98 shot, whether its to the toe...

RE: dod update coming?
well, I would agree that getting shot in the toe should not kill me. In fact, getting shot anywhere other than my chest and head by a single shot weapon should not kill me. 90% damage is fine. But not death.
I say it's about damn time the weapons were'n't based on 1999-2000 FPS/DM principles, such as CS:S's weapons currently are.
deagles, awp's, pump shot guns.....all of em have glaring realism issuess. And CS:S is supposed to be realistic. It was considered one of the more realistic shooters at the time of it's first release as CS in 1999.......so......you wonder why the haven't switch a lot of stuff.
why isn't there scope drift and accuracy cones, as there are for DoD, and America's Army, and BF, and and and anda dnad
why isn't there sprinting and lying in CS.....but there is in DoD? Why the hell not?
For me, it's the CPL/OGL/CAL influence. If the game gets upgraded to realism, then the CAL boys, with their jumping deagles and long distance pump shot action will get angry, saying the game sucks. And that hurt's valve's feelings.
And the people who know the realism is pathetically lacking are a little less vocal, and a lot more patient......so valve never hears us.

RE: dod update coming?
well if you want to talk about realism, lets see..
if i were to get shot in the toe with a k98...
i wouldnt have a foot....
i cant walk that off..like people do who get shot to 10 hp..
i mean someone would be DISABLED without a foot .. that can be translated to DEATH in the game...
i've been playing in the us army recently, and i've seen the power the gimped K98 has.. so now im not that crazy on getting back the solid 1 shot kill for the k98..

RE: dod update coming?
wrong again. You want to call me disabled, without a foot, then you do it liek america's army, or operation flashpoint figured out YEARS ago.
I take a lot of foot or leg damage, I can't walk, run, or both. I crawl around. Every time I stand up, I scream in pain, and fall back down.
I take a lot of damage, that in reality would be a fatal wound....then you implement bleeding and medics. If a medic doesnt' find my ass in America's army, and I'm bleeding.....I will die. Similar in OFP. And once a medic heals me, I can walk and move again.....at least better then before, and the bleeding stops.
dont' make excuses for lack of realism. Make solutions.

RE: dod update coming?
in addition, if I took a lot of arm damage, my scope would drift 2X, even 5X as much, completely negating my abilites to snipe.
That, or if I was really hurting, I wouldn't be able to raise my iron sights or scope at all, and would be forced to fire from the hip.
all of these things should be present in the game. They are perfectly playable, non-gameplay altering additions that ADD functionality and realism.
things that for some reason, CAL and CPL don't want.
hence why CAL and CPL really aren't helping games, or servers, by being holdouts to new additions. Hell, CAL and CPL were even slow to adopt source into their ladders. fucking relics.

RE: Re: RE: dod update coming?
and that is what's lame. 12 hp should mean 12% of my normal functions. No running, no jumping, bad aim, can't stand up right.....hell, even add some of those new effects in that bit.net movie.....make it so if I have 12hp, my vision is fuzzy, or my HDR is alllllll whakced out, with objects out of focus, and glare exaggerated, like I'm going off to that spawn point in the sky.
It's pathetic for gamers to give companies so much credit, and so much support, when in reality, they have all these options available. They just don't do em. I'm not asking for new ideas.....I'm just asking that when a game previous (and we're talking YEARS previous) to a current game comes out, it would be nice to have teh outstanding features and intuitive design choices from that game to be at least CONSIDERED, if not fully implemented by future games.
an FPS is an FPS........and other than the weapons and maps....I dont' see why there has to be so many differences in the way the human characters move, jump, crawl, see, react to nades, flashes, all of it. Realism is a standard. It's reality. Meaning all realistic games should essentially all look the same, at least according to physics and damage principles.
I would really appreciate the damage system being modified to force damage players to crawl, or lose their iron sights. And then to counter that, to add medics who can give back those abilties, stop the bleeding, but not increase their health.
AS HAS BEEN SEEN IN OTHER REALISTIC WAR-THEMED GAMES.

dod update coming?
I agree that there is a lot more that could be done to make things more realistic. Some very good examples already talked about in this thread.
I would also like to add that in a realistic environment that bullets have an arc. They do not travel in a straight line. They also richochet. It would be great if Valve would integrate that into there games as well. I don't know about anyone else, but I would rather see those integrated into the games before a bunch of eye candy.
I would hope that Valve has the foresight to see that the age demographic for their games is getting older and they would integrate more realism as well as eyecandy.
